They will be stupid not to. If they don't they kiss goodbye playing footy again. Even if they do fight it and win they will still be finished. They will get handed a sanction as soon as the sc notice period ends. As soon as they get a sanction they can't play footy

Im very wary of any deals.
WADA are still threatening to come over the top of Cronulla and now players have admitted guilt and copped 3 game bans they are facing 2 year bans. Several players refused deals and their fate is still undecided. Would want an absolute iron clad agreement from WADA before accepting any deal

Problem is I don't think you will get any agreement from wada. Even if you do fight it and win the players will still miss 12months plus of footy.

What would you do then and what options do they have?
Take a 3 game ban and then WADA gives you 2 years anyway or try to fight it and still end up with a year or two ban.
Personally I wouldnt take any deal without an assurance that there is no more chance of prosecution although if I believed I was innocent id fight to clear my name no matter the outcome

The ways it going just keep fighting it and their careers will be finished before any decision is made

There is a handful of Cronulla players who are doing just that.
Earning good money overseas and only a year or two of their careers left so will just try to drag it out for another year or so

Take the early guilty deal and hope wada don't step in. Hoping you will only miss 3-6months is a lot better then never playing afl again.

That's why Essendon's actions have been disgustingly reckless ... they have left the players to take a rap they never deserved.

Can't wait for that to play out in the courts.

They also reckon GC are about to throw the kitchen sink at Bomber to take over from McKenna. Gotta love silly season!

With Goodwin gone and the Suns and Crows sniffing around at Bomber and Bass I think the club is concerned that if something happens to Hird in the next few months we are stuffed, better to lose 1 coach and plan a system going forward. That would also allow Hird to continue with court action seperate from the club if he chooses.

Yes, they have offered approx $1.4m a year to get him up there and reportedly as a sweetner the AFL will waive his existing fine aswell

It would be the smartest thing your mob could do Jimbob. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. You wouldnt think Hird would go down quietly

Stood down or sacked?

Stood down doesn't make sense as that's what they did to him for 12 months on full pay.

My 2c is that Essendon either follow through with the 2 years on Hird or sack him ... there's no in-between.

If that fine gets waived then it'll be a disgrace.

Hird and a couple of board members want to appeal the court decision but the majority of the board dont want to appeal.
I believe he has been given an ultimatum to choose whether he wants to coach or appeal if its the later he will be sacked

The AFL will do anything to look after their pet projects. I find it hilarious that Bomber and Goody were implicated in the drug scandal and were up to their eyeballs in it yet Goody finds himself funded by the AFL at Melbourne and the AFL are willing to fund a payout of McKenna and bring in Bomber
