That would be an interesting topic all of it's own

Could anyone have coached the Lions to premierships 2001-2003 given the quality of their squad?

What about Blighty's turnaround at the Crows?

I think it's some combination of coach and players + a luck with injuries + hitting form in September + the draw + tons of self-belief/confidence that gets a premiership - very difficult to isolate one factor as all have to work together IMO

Have to agree with everything Hondo says

Not bad for someones who's DUMB.

exactly my point JJ, wheres the results from this high %????

1 Premiership
3 McClelland Trophies (in the Era of supposedly Greatest team of all time - Bribane)
Missed finals once in last 6 years.
Squad has quickly been Redeveloped to realistically challenge for the premiership in next year or two.

WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT THEM TO DO?????????????

Yes it would have been nice to have won another Flag in this era But it Just shows how hard they are to Win.

Its not rocket science.

From someone who doesn't barrack for the Crows or Port it'd be a damn shame if Port make the finals and the Crows dont as Port play complete crap football to watch.
There was only one team playing football tonight and on behalf of all football fans I was barracking for them, well done Crows.

The Crows are the most boring team to watch in the AFL! Port generally play hard running attacking football. On Saturday night we just played crap. If you call the crap the Crows play as being good football, you dont like fast free flowing football and would rather see ultra defensive football with a flood that would make Noah cringe

I don't know about Port playing crap football either. They might have last night for reasons as stated by the Boonmiester but when allowed space I reckon Port are a great team to watch.

I dont think it has anything to do with the physicallity of the opposition, just that we get dragged down by ultra defensive football and don't have anthing to conter it at the minute. Give us space to run and we will kill you. Deny us space and we stand there like stunned mullets.

Ebert's first goal was a disgraceful decision, it was wet Mattner slid to gather the footy, was pounced upon immediately, holding the ball was paid....

On a wet evening this would of happpend more than 50 times, and they pay about 4 holding the ball's all night

Then, their was Burton's mark, he would need to of had 5 foot long arms for it to be a push in the back, once again cost a goal

The scoreboard flattered the Power at qtr time

The Burton incident, shouldn't have been a free kick, but also wasn't a mark. Actually gotta do more than make contact with the ball to be a mark. He held on to it for a total of 0.5 seconds in three attempts.

Absolutely dreaming if you belive this is true. We didnt play any different type of gameplan in 02 or 03 finals than we did all year in those years.

In 02, the players skills let them down. Not Chocos fault. He cant kick the ball for them. Tredrea kicked 0.3, Primus had a snap from the goalsquare which went out on the full, just about every player that night missed kicks, fumbled, dropped marks. Monty dropped a chest mark on the members wing and watched the ball go out. K Cornes was done HTB whilst trying to get around someone to have a shot at goal. P Burgoynes brain fade in the goalsquare. James kicking to Francou on the outer wing who was 50 metres on his own (literally) and missing him by 15 metres and watching the ball go out. Collingwood were on their game. We werent. Was it a choke? Probably. The players played probably their worst game for the year that night.

In 03 it was just a complete club meltdown involving everyone. The coaching staff and the players. The club had it too easy leading up to the finals and when forced to go an extra gear they couldnt find it. Yes, the coaching staff had/have to take a large portion of the blame for that. That Sydney final was lost in 20 minutes of watching a club completely melt down under the expectation of the supporters and the entire AFL community.

But hey, they got there in the end. Lots of clubs/coaches/players have got to the brink, lost for whatever reason never to get close ever again. They arent the first group to mess up before triumphing and they wont be the last either.

Garbage, in the 02 QF, Collingwood led for about 98% of the game. The only time Port led was for about 5 minutes in the 1st quarter. In 03 QF, I think youll find Sydney led for 100% of the game.

If Premierships are ALL that count then why the Mass Hysteria over the Result of one minor round Game???????????
I'd rather be a Power supporter and see the team make the Finals regularly even if they dont win premierships than follow Richmond who struggle to win a game let alone play Finals.

DISAGREE that premierships are all that counts.

Ideally Port would win the flag every year (similar to SANFL) but the reality is there are 15 other clubs and an AFL equalisation policy that makes it bloody hard to do so.
