My last input on the Fitzroy thing (I promise!).

I know about the Fitzroy history through family friends being supporters right back to the "Gorillas" days ... and agree with everything that has been written except one point - whether the 1975-96 jumper was light maroon or red. But that's something that shouldn't be continued any more because we will more than likely continue to agree to disagree!

I have no problems with you talking about Fitzroy or giving input about Fitzroy. I can only give my opinions on Fitzroy from my perspective as a long time member and shareholder. It does become a little frustating when some give their opinions about the Roys with little to no evidence to back up what they are saying though. And no, I don't include you amongst that number.

It is probably more red than maroon. However it was officially "light maroon", which is why they didn't change the words of the song. That's all I'm suggesting.

THE Brisbane Lions are considering wearing the old Fitzroy jumpers for all future AFL away matches in Melbourne.

As part of the heritage round, the Lions wore the famous red, blue and yellow strip for last weekend's shock victory over West Coast at Subiaco.

Many long-time supporters of Fitzroy, which merged with the Brisbane Bears in 1996 to form the Brisbane Lions, would welcome the opportunity to see the club play more regularly in the traditional jumpers.

"I and a lot of other people watching the West Coast game thought the Fitzroy colours looked magnificent out there on Subiaco," Brisbane chief executive Michael Bowers said. "So we're having a good think about maybe duplicating that on the MCG or Telstra Dome for our future Melbourne-based fixtures.

"The loyalty of our Victorian members and supporters is one of the club's most prized assets. Fitzroy is in their blood and so it's in our blood - and we want to openly celebrate that history.

"Wearing the Fitzroy jersey for our Melbourne away clashes could well be the way to go. So we would love to get members' feedback on this idea."

Brisbane has already committed to wearing the Fitzroy jumpers in the August 11 clash with Hawthorn at the MCG as part of the celebrations for the Kings of the Pride reunion function.

The Lions will be wearing their predominantly white clash strip for tonight's match against Melbourne at the Gabba because it is officially a Demons' home game.
