Secret meeting for Kangaroos buyout

Talk on the national game

Postby JK » Thu Apr 19, 2007 2:15 pm

Cheers mate, the intent of the questions was to find out how much the Kanga's rely on assistance funds from the AFL in case Demetriou and Co. ever decide to put the squeeze on your club as a measure of trying to force a relocation .. All speculative of course, just wondered if they would have that kinda leverage though.

Probably our biggest mistake after 99 was not to "bottom out" like many other clubs to get the draft choices...
and BTW why is the Gold Coast the be all and end all? Who says it would be successful? Say we move up there and ditch allt he Melbourne tradition and then it fails?

My advice - watch the footy show tonight, Brayshaws comments will worth listening to..

No your biggest mistake since 99 was to overrate your list and top up with Hawthorn rejects. Did they do this at the expense of drafting young talent? This does not extend to Nathan Thompson of course who has been a valuable recruit for the club.

Good call REB. No point using the excuse about not finishing bottom to get low draft picks if you spend the ones you do have on recycled players. Jonathan Hay would be the last straw for them I expect.

The Crows  are a good example of a team that has not finished near the bottom but (apart from one W Carey) kept early draft picks and made shrewd use of rookie list players to jump back up the ladder quickly.

Love the way you come in and just sledge instead of providing counter arguments. Plenty of facts in the thread mate, just go back and look.

And being an Essendon supporter, I reckon you can stick your blow-in club up your jaxy.

Don't think Brayshaw said anything riveting on the matter on TFS. The board appears to have little say in the matter.

Dutchy, full marks for sticking up for your team under the tsunami you seem to find yourself fighting whenever the Kangaroos come up as a topic. I'd like to think I'd back the Crows in so well.

I know the Southport Sharks have great money and great members and great results in the QFL but Ive got a feeling the NRL might have beaten the AFL to the punch especially with the Titans beating the Broncos last week.

Cheers Hondo...to be honest Ive had a gutful of it and believe there are better things to discuss, but I cant help myself in defending my club which seems to be a very easy target....

Who has the greater say, the board or the shareholders? Once the AFL owns the club, anything's possible.

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see the Kangaroos stay in Melbourne and prosper. I go to quite a few Kangaroos games in Melbourne and you certainly get no theatregoers. But if they had 24,000 members last year (JB didn't seem to want to mention this year's figure), why do they get crowds well below that?

Fair to say that most Kangaroos members would reside in Melbourne.

Of course, a few wins would see the subject go away.

Thought Brayshaw was very good. How in the hell can Fev ask where are the supporters! How many were going to watch Carlton last season?
