Collingwood also submitted something that was knocked back ... anyone got a pic of it?

I believe that Collingwood submitted a predominately white jumper with black stripes, white shorts and black socks with a white hoop.

It's the same as the black one with white stripes, just reversed the back and white around, that's all Collingwood did.

Are you serious? There's a red sash on the back of the Bomber's guernsey in case you didn't know!

Only if you have a black and white TV!

I can't add to that! Well said, REB!

See what I said above about the sash!

Dutchy wrote:and why would you want the Umpires back in white? ...I dont think Ive ever heard anyone against the change to neutral colours for umpires

White would be a neutral colour if the teams stopped mucking around. The AFL over reacted to the increase in collisions - which in actual fact is another example of poor concentration on the part of the players.

PS - Just on the prison bar jumper, one thing I know that the AFL doesn't allow is colour clashes - ie clubs using the same colours even though the design is different. And a quick note - Carlton has one colour (navy blue). The white doesn't count, just to head off any claims that they clash with Geelong in that sense. Same applies for yellow in the case of Brisbane.

ahh such a simple life....

 If you dont think Melbourne/Essendon clash - Navy Blue/Black are the only difference and they can be confused, Red is the same and both have whie numbers

 UmmmRoos/Collingwood have essentially the same jumper

 Picture this if not too hard..Geelong are at home wearing Blue Shorts laying Carlton with white shorts...You dont think this is a clash?

 Same for Saints at home and Essendon wearing white shorts, same colours if Im not mistaken!!!

You obviously have never played the game by your simplistic comments

Wow - that'd be an interesting game. All those old rumours about Kouta resurfacing again....

No doubt about the clash in one and three but I can honestly say I've never had a problem when we play Carlton. That Essendon v Melbourne clash is a shocker!

Cmon your trying to tell me an Umpire has the same reaction time as a player? Carp!!! AN umpire can look at a contest wait a couple of seconds and then make a decision. A Essendon player however about to get tackled sees a millisecond glimpse of a dark jumper with red on it and white numbers and makes the handball straght to a Melbourne player.

If you have been an umpire you would also understand that in some ameuter comps teams have the same/similar jumpers, what happens?, well one of them is made to wear a neutral jumper, not just white shorts.

I alos guess you are saying that commentators have got it wrong previously when games between the teams above have 5-6 obvious turnovers and they say it is due to the jumper clash.

Sorry Filly but I agree with the Dutchman on this one. Surely the player has less time to make his decisions.

As an umpire I find the decision making relatively easier than when I played. This is largely becasue as an umpire you are normally 20 m away from the action so can see the entire uniform of the palyers and the entire contest and can pre-empt decisions on what is most likely to happen. In close as a player often you just see part of a guernsey and you have people around you so your decision making process is often much quicker.

Dutchy we only have milliseconds to make a decision too (not seconds) but we have the advantage that if we make a clanger we can call it back or call play on (marking situation). Player makes a bad split second decision it can lead to a goal and a rest on teh pine.

Maybe i find decision makingeasier as an umpire becasue i was carp as a player.....??
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Don't forget we aren't just talking about helping the umps and the players when we talk about clashing strips. There's the spectators at the ground and the TV audience. An extra sash or a strip might help close up, but doesn't do much for small figures on a TV screen. When the Crows played Melbourne away last year the teams looked way too alike.

Back on the Collingwood issue ... I am sure the AFL would accept a white guernsey, black trim around the neck and arms, the traditional magpie emblem on the front, black numbers and white shorts. It should be easy for them as they already have white in their colours.
