Talk on the national game

The good news for the Eagles is it hasn't affected their Hungry Jacks sponsorship. In fact they have a special promotion burger called "The Eagles Whopper". It's like any normal whopper but comes with free coke...............Sorry! Had to be said. :P

I think the Eagles would like some of their players to switch to "Coke ZERO" :)

You may recall Dale Lewis making the statement that 70% of AFL players either have been or still are into drugs. Because he didn't have the evidence to back up his statement, everyone howled him down and he had to rectract his statement.

However, I would think 70% would be accurate. They are young men, plenty of money and opportunity, and wanting to party. The emphasis on body shape and fitness these days means players have to limit their alcohol intake, so they turn to substances that give them a high, don't put on weight, and are out of the system by the time they rock up to practice the next day.

Anyone who thinks drugs aren't rife amongst AFL players really has their head shoved neatly up their clacker.

I heard a report on Radio a few years back, suggesting that plenty of the people working at Moomba and Roxby and places like that were subject to drug testing when they returned to work? (I wouldn't know as it's not an industry I've ever been exposed to)

The Report then went on to say that a lot of people (who are subject to drug tests) who regularly smoked hooch were giving it away for "party drugs" like Ecstasy because they apparently remain in the system/bloodstream for a shorter period of time.

I think you can say 70% for sure.

It stops puting on weight, you dont eat, you train like f**k, you dont have a hangover.

I think its a huge problem that the AFL denies there is one.

I mean, the club officals dont get told till the 3rd offence!!!! Only the players family doctor knows.

What a joke. It will only be a matter of time till one of the AFL players are in a box.

I think rife is probably close to the mark. Anybody thats been pretty well involved in the club scene would be able to notice two things:
a) The tell-tale signs of taking certain substances
b) Which sports people youve seen out and about are under said substances.

Dale Lewis was spot on a few years back. He was just the 'snitch' that bore the brunt of negativity for bringing it out in the open.

Its only really been in the last 18 months or so that the extent that "youth"/clubbers are taking these substances has come out into the public. Seemed the majority of society seemed to be quite naive about how common party drugs are. They are much more common than people gave credit for.

The next day Chick has arrived at training off his chops, walked up to Embley and king hit him.”

I got a better job, more money, and started buying really nice lunches.

Thing is, when you earn more money, you start to do things you wouldn't normally be able to do.
I'm really not surprised of footy players entering, or at least dabbling, in this at all.

Now you've got a kid Diss, you going to be going back to bringing your lunch!!! Or at best simply buying your lunch - no more nice lunches for you my friend!!!!

Mind you after a night walking the floor no need for food, just coffee!!!!

Len Bias, anyone?

AFL is powerless to stop players from taking drugs.

Only 3 that we know about. Couple of dozen tested positive once. Then there is the ones the public dont know about.

There are a few reasons why players could get away with it. The main one being the amount of testing done is nowhere near enough.

Anderson came out last week and said that they did about 500 tests last year. Considering there is over 600 players on an AFL list, and fair percentage of the players tested were tested numerous times, it means a large percentage of players didnt even get tested. How is that any way to take a 'stance on drugs'. Its a weak way to stamp it out. Players have said theyve been tested up to 5 times in one year and then not again for a year or two. Also consider that ecstacy is 99% out of your system 48 hours after use. It is undecetable through a urine sample after 24 hours of use. Chances are you can take them every couple of weeks and not get caught.

These players arent gods. Just like the rest of the country, they drink too much, some of them drink and drive, some of them cheat on their partners, some of them get in punchups and get arrested, its silly to think that they wouldnt touch drugs as well. Im not saying that every player is going out and snorting 5 pills every weekend of the year. Im just agreeing with Lewis a few years back when he said that 75% of the AFL would have tried an illegal substance. Whether that be weed, meth, coke, ecstacy, whatever.
