Sounds like its been on the cards for a few weeks. Strange that Lyons management knew nothing about it, believe they have ended their relationship with him.
With Dean Wallis suspended for over half the season maybe its time for Harvs to come home and take up a spot on the coaching panel :)

If harvey can regroup quickly then he would be a serious candidate for the melbourne or western bulldog job.

I hope there will be some phone calls made from Adelaide HQ this morning. Harvey has just gone to the top of my list.

Can't believe Freo have dumped Harvey for Lyon and his BS clog up yawnfest playbook. I would love a tough nut like Harvey with his aggressive approach and attacking gameplan at the helm of my club. Get him on the phone Trigg!

Not too sure why you are pissed off with this. Lyon's stagnant game plan has only taken the Saints so far. You still have a good side and hopefully you can now play with a bit more freedom.

Freo have been little more than a joke for the majority of their existence and they sack a coach who had turned them into a decent unit because he couldn't coach WAFL players to win AFL matches. So they go behind Harvey and St Kilda's back to snaffle Lyon who in essence is really only Paul Roos lite.

Anyone looking for a new coach should look no further than Brendan McCartney, the man who put the claws on Geelong.

Are the Freo power brokers the only people in Australia who didn't acknowledge their injury woes and Harveys efforts over the last 3 seasons? ( His first being a toe in the water experience )

Securing Ross Lyon is a massive coup for the club. He brought about huge improvement at St Kilda and I reckon he'll do the same at the Dockers.

How so, he took a regular finals team to be, well, a regular finals team?

People seem to have short memories, its pretty obvious why he wants out of St Kilda, reported behaviour and discipline issues have to make the coaching job 10 times harder, he did well to take them to the GF, but its pretty obvious the window is closing quickly. Think he is a good fit at the Dockers.

As for Harvey and the Crows, who knows, would be interesting to hear his presentation to the board to see what direction he would be taking the club in, could well be worth a punt if he is interested.

Mentioned this morning he has signed five years for $7.5 million. He is not worth that much surely.

I love that people have this theory that lyons coaching/game plan is what has stopped the saint winning a flag, they drew the GF last year FFS. Surely in a game that is a draw (or even a close loss) it is really more luck than anything else as to exactly the moment the siren sounds, and who wins or loses or draws, not anything to do with a game plan. You're Reading far too much into it

Fair to say the Saints didn't play an exciting brand of football under Lyon, but I sure agree that one nice little "bounce up" from the Sherrin would now see him as a Premiership coach. Fact is he isn't but I do think he is a very high quality coach.

Most of us would agree the bottom 4-5 in the Saints GF team of last season were pretty average in comparison to Collingwoods.

Robert Harvey announced as "interim coach"? Aren't they on holidays?

The Saints are now 5-6 weeks behind all the other clubs in interviewing / securing a new coach and you would think Rob harvey would egt the gig.

Well i think its a great move from Freo. Yes st kilda didnt play the best brand of footy, but lyon got results. he is known for his hardness and would bring alot to the freo club. Its a ballsy move and if it pays off and they play in a GF or win one. everyone would have a different view. This is just another sign that the times in AFL have changed. Its a big business and driven from results. Lyon looked at st kilda squad and the freo's squad and thought his best chance to win a flag is with Freo. (and off course the money) Freo looks alot more settled off the field then St Kilda. Danger signs on and off field for the saints.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

I don't rate Harvey at all, done an 'ok' job at freo without being brilliant.

I doubt Harvey would up and leave Perth to go to a new City! A return home to Melb would be the only option.... Id rather Burns, he just seems to fit for me. New coach and young squad etc I dont mind Harvey at all but doubt the approach will be made. Its still a 3 horse race Burns, Neeld and Bicks (distant 3rd)! Announcement next week apparently from what i hear
