I dunno about that, mate. Look at the large number of people that are putting Voss ahead of both Buckley and Hird.
That challenges that line of debate a little.

If I get an answer tonigh, I'll be surprised, given your busy day today ;)

From memory, Buckley also got reported for smearing blood on an opponent as well.

Voss - Inspirational, skills under pressure second to none.
Buckley - A selfish 'receiver' but kicking skills were superb.
Hird - Terrific footballer but not durable enough, too easily injured.
Ricciuto - Tough and reliable but slightly lacking the class of the above three.

Voss - the most uncomprising leader, triple premiership captain, just brutal
Buckley - carried that team for years, perfect kick, did what mattered when it counted
Roo - consistent, all-rounder, tough, could kick a goal
Hird - courage at the ball, change the course of the game, skills

=1. Ricciuto

There is a reason we cant split them with confidence guys!
All 4 are champions in their own right and it's a great thing that many of us got to see them in an era when football was at its peak.

Statistically roo probably should hold the no:1 ranking, but at the end of the day for mine it came down to who was most influential for their side in any situation. Hird for me displayed this. Essendon at their prime (ala 2000) were led superbly by hird, and yes there weren't too may occasions in hirds career where essendon struggled. Tall or small, hird simply tore opposition apart when on song.

Bucks along with vossy and roo are all natural born leaders which was their strength. Each in their own possess unique abilities that made them such a joy to watch. I'll rate bucks as the best skilled by foot i have seen (yes jarman is a bloody good kick but never saw jars dob a goal from outside 50 on the left leg quite like buckley). Vossy and roo were two of the toughest footballers of the modern era, vossy to be a triple premiership captain is an accolade in which wont be equalled for a while and roo, well a feared footballer for supreme hardness and added a brownlow, flag and multiple b&f's and aa's to go with it speaks for itself.

Hard to seperate the four. All terrific players but I ranked them simply by who i enjoyed watching the most, and game changing moments involving hird and bucks appear all too often.

Best thing about these four is that not one if them is Victorian. Must be the first time that no Victorian player was put in the hall of fame

Depends what you mean by Victorian.
Voss was born and spent much of his childhood in Victoria.

The Dog is right ---- using the same reasoning that neither Buckley nor Hird were actually Victorian, you have to declare that Voss is.

I agree on the dubiousness of Bickley.
A good honest player - that is all.
Waiting the Crows supporters to bag me but I've always felt that way.

Would be in based on being a back to back premiership captain, there isnt too many of them getting around.

I agree with you though, football ability wise he was solid nothing more nothing less.
