I think it's probably a statement to these players that when your club is 1-7 and coming off one of the crappest performances of the year, you shouldn't be out till all hours. It suggests to the coaches, your team mates, and the supporters that you don't take your 'job' or your club's position seriously.
As quoted on the club's website:
“It (the indiscretion) is an indication that Bernie’s preparation hasn’t been as sharp as it should’ve been. When you start to get into that (elite) bracket everyone is after you on the field. Therefore, your preparation has to be that much better in order to gain the smallest margin of improvement,” Noble said.
It's clearly a message to these players and the rest of the playing group to smarten up. Harsh on these three? Quite possibly, in a way I do feel sorry for these blokes for being made scape goats, and I hope like hell we don't lose them because of it. But obviously there has been a blase attitude around the club that needed to be addressed, and cudos to the leadership group for taking the stand.
Now let's hope this translates to the field.
