It was a Preliminary Final, and I think 1997.

I was at that one also, it was before the prelim I mentioned but wasn't quite as good as a spectacle and the drama wasn't as high because unlike the GF spot and end of the season that the Prelim carried the QF actually counted for nothing the way the finals were structured. Was great at the time for Billy though.![]()
I still have both games recorded and occasionally pull them out.*
Another good Cats one was Riccardi's 55 metre goal after the siren against Carlton. Loved that win after the little peanut that dived down the other end to cheat and put his team in front.

Playing the reigning premiers on a warm, sunny Sunday afternoon in Perth the Blues faced a major test in their premiership quest and they passed.
Both teams were in terrific form at the time and it was a fierce contest.
In one passage of play Earl Spalding cleaned up Guy McKenna with the best shirtfront I've ever seen.
Dennis Cometti, commentating at the time, said "Earl Spalding has just lost his WA citizenship"

Actually it was a goal in reality.Mark Bickley has said it on numerous occasions that he got the perfect view and no way was it not a goal. These days we have higher posts .How history might have been different.

Correct, I think the Hawks trailed by 64 points at one stage and won the game.
