Shouldn't matter who his father is or his families emotional ties to the city of Geelong when it comes to Nathan Ablett just wanting to have a kick and a catch at the highest level his footballing ability allows him to play at.

the problem is that he is Gary Ablett's son. Nathan is much like his dad and is quiet and shuns media attention whilst Gary Jr. realises this is part and parcel of being an AFL footballer. Geelong have done a top job looking after Nathan's interests and trying to keep the spot light off of him as much as the club can.
Lunchcutter the same is going to happen to Modra's kids, Roo's kids any champion footballer's children there is alot of pressure on them to shine just like their mum and or dad's did. The best example is Shane Tuck we all know his dad but his mum is Gary's sister Hawthorn didn't give him time to develop and he went to Westies played a gun year and has been a top player for Richmond away from his Dad's former club.

interesting, they will have to keep him on the list to retain him for 2009 but as they cant replace him I guess they have no choice...dunno what he would have been on but might release a bit of pressure on the cap

I don't think this will hurt the cats other than 1 less player on the list. I think i guy by the mane of tom hawkins could fill the role ablett plays and may just fast track his development a little bit more. Could he still win the NAB rising star award this year, may be a fair bet

Spot on.If the passion is not there at 21 or 22 then you doubt it would be there after a year or two off.My bet is,a bloke like Neil Balme would not stand for any funny business and would have been pretty straight with Nathan.If he was it may of put the kid in his place.
