I'd go watch a 3rd side, they could target real footy fans and might get a few. A lot like me can never bring ourselves to barrack for the Crows or Port and would jump at a 3rd side. I would have followed a 2nd side passionately had it been anything/anyone rather than Port.

Wedgie please please dont tell me you would dump your side you followed forever just because an Adelaide based Franchise developed out of nowhere. What would be the difference between team 3 and the Crows?or your other favourite Adelaide Utd.

I wouldn't dump Geelong but I'd definately support a 3rd side.

If there was an alternate to AU I'd follow them no probs too.

you would think it is only a matter of time before we need to reduce the number of Melbourne based teams...

if the AFL's numbers are correct, 70% of the Kanga's income come from the AFL, if this is true, this is not sustainable and whether the members like it or not, it makes the AFL a key stakeholder

I certainly support the Kanga's move to the Gold Coast, however, the AFL needs to ensure that the Melbourne base members are treated as a key stakeholder, the new club model moving forward gives the club every opportunity to maintain and satisfy the clubs melbourne based members, most importantly, it enables the club to maintain it's heritage

I disagree. Profit to the AFL comes from TV rights, sponsorships and the like – less and less of their profit comes from attendance at matches. A 3rd SA team is not likely to assist the AFL in that area. A team on the Gold Coast brings new businesses wanting to advertise nationally, wanting to back their local side, new Foxtel subscriptions, new TV viewers… All things that will bring substantial $$ to the AFL.

so nobody would be interested in supporting a third team.

but all companies in oz would fall over themselves to sponsor the bears mark II.

you are aware how the sporting teams have gone in the gold coast of late regarding sponsors ???

True, but the Titans are going well (so far). And the Coast will never adopt a side that plays up North a couple of times a season, hence the AFL's keeness for a side up there.

100% agree with you on that one wedgie.

with a third team would make the invention of the crows look more idiotic. maybe this is why some people are so scared of the thought. maybe.

Poor SANFL  bought into an established product and it has been a goldmine (yes the national part in advertising and tv rights improved because of the SA missing link I do accept).

im assuming brisbane didnt get funds from get the sale of waverley. they did. cos they paid $4 million aswell and are equal partners.

interesting isnt it.

$30 million investment into the QAFL announced in 2005.

how much should we estimate brisbane has cost the afl from 1987 -2005. With the fitzroy merger with both clubs having their debts written off .

Who are these sponsors that have sat up in the gold coast ignoring all other major sporting teams waiting for the afl to arrive. i aint believing it. 3 rugby league teams they have gone thru.

if they cant expand on sa under current model. look to change model most businesses do this.

i guarantee their are alot more football followers than the average 37000 who watch afl football every week here in sa. (used average of power 30000 crowds crows 45000 crowds)

that doesnt even equate to 3% of the population that attends afl games. no more room for improvement here at all.

Christ I cant see there being a third team in adelaide. We seem to have enough trouble with coping with change as it is. ;)

I can't see it happening either stan, just saying it would be fantastic for some hard core supporters out there looking to see a bit more AFL than they do currently. Will never happen.

I'm sure Norwood could play half its home games in Adelaide and half on the Gold Coast! We just need a few priority picks...

Being serious adelaide is not big enough to support 2 AFL teams. Fair enough the cows get 40k+ but remember port get 25 -30k. At this stage its not feasable, but the problem with Adelaide will we ever be able to support a thrid team. Well I would say probably not.

If instead of Port Adelaide getting the second licence another team was "invented" like the Crows I think that second team may now have a broader support base than the Power. There are those misguided souls who can't bring themselves to support the Crows, but understandably struggle to support a team linked to Port Adelaide as the alternative.

You gotta be kidding  With the Crows success in the 97-98 seasons another invented side would have been buried forever.I hate Pt Adelaide to the core but think the supporter base here in Adelaide is incredibly good and a credit to them considering the commercial juggernaut and vested interest that the media has in the Crows.

There is no two ways to look at it North are broke. North were always knocking on the VFL wanting admittance to the big league and it took until 1925 for them to be allowed in and then another 50 years after that to win their first flag. North have never had a strong supporter base even when they were winning flags in the 1990's their membership was struggling but when the AFL now will force the issue most North Supporters who are not members will rise and become members.

If a club legend like Allen Aylett can't convince the doubters, then perhaps nothing will:
