Crows Delistings

Talk on the national game

mate you have identified some of the issues with AFL listed players going back to SANFL clubs

the crows would like Douglas to develop his footy as a HB or Defensive midfielder, however, the bays play the Kid in another role, which is their right to do so........

next year, the crows have recruited Moran with the view of Moran playing as a key defender, however, depending what SANFL club he lands at, he may be used as a ruckman

same with Tippett, the crows see Tippett as a forward, however Westies predominantly play Tippett in the ruck....

these are the development issues the crows and power face, in my view, sooner the crows are able to follow Geelong's lead and have their own reserve side in the SANFL the better it would be.

However, I can't see it happening, SA footy does not like change, this is why we still have the u/17 and u/19 model, and our junior development is falling so far behind other states

This would allow the club to develop players in the role they were recruited to fill

has the club announced, that is it......

the crows have five picks at the national draft, however it may also come down to who may be available at the pre-season draft

Should we have 6 picks as we went in to the season one player down any way ???
It is what it is !!!

It is an option, I am not convinced if either Doughty or Jericho are safe just yet....

All clubs will go back and review the depth of the draft and to see who the other clubs delist and what uncontracted players nominate for the pre-season draft

I know the crows are keen on couple boys from the sanfl to nominate for the draft who have not yet nominated

Depending on all these factors, the crows may want to have an extra pick, if so, they will need to delist one more player

My mail is, the club is taking a Proplyzia approach with the kid, he may be invited back to pre-season this year, but he has certainly been told to go away, sort some things out, play good footy, like Proplyzia your still on our radar... but it is up to the lad

Gone are Torney, Bode, Perrie, Hinge, Pfeiffer, Meesen, Hudson, Mattner and captain Mark Ricciuto.

The club have already gained four players Symes, Moran, Gallman and Walker.

This gives us five picks in the national draft next month – 10, 27, 30, 38 and 59.

I can't recall the club being any better positioned for a national draft

Average players out, mediocre players in. Mid range draft picks. Sounds like Richmond over a number of years.

I'm not sure how those draft picks ensure any cream heading to Turner Drive.

At least with Torney we had a bloke who you were guaranteed of having a red hot go. It's a squad game these days and if you want to give young blokes an opportunity, then you need reliable fall backs to stop any haemhorrhaging.

why didnt the crows swap mattner for schneider, a premiership forward with heaps of talent?
Im a swannies man and im sad to see schneiderman go but i would have thought this was a logical trade.

He may not have wanted to come here, the player has to agree to the trade

Alternatively they may have just felt Symes was a better long term option

schneider did not want to leave sydney, the only club he would agreed to be traded to was the Saints because he had a good relationship with Lyons

schneider's form since 2005 has been scratchy at best, since the swans Premiership he has been very up and down, averages about 13 touches a game and in a lot of circumstances has been able to maintain his spot in the side due to the swans lack of depth

I would of been happy for schneider to come to the crows, but I am not fazed that we did not target him

I believe the crows may target callinan from the dogs to play a schneider type role

you can only have one of those players in a side, does that mean porplycia will be back at richmond, i dont consider him a bode as bode was a very strong tackler who kept it in the forward lines

Porplyzia is a gun IMO. Besides, you need some depth at all positions in case of injury

I rate Proplyzia more highly than Bode..... Jason is very strong over head, has great hands and is footy smarts...., most importantly, Jason can push in to the midfield

In the modern game you need to do more than tackle

Plenty of the crows players rate Jason as the next Big Thing and believe he has the Capability to win a club B&F

For Jason's and the clubs sake I hope he does not become, just a HF type player, we need more than that from him

Name with all going well what u would onsider the forward starting 6 in 2008

something like this

????????? Welsh ??????

Porplycia Hentschell Gill

Where do callinan, mcgregor, jericho  , and co fit

Tippett may be ok but from what ive seen he needs 12 months sttill, re your comments about him being a forward he does struggle a little over head still but his ruck work definately improved in the games I saw, maybe a tall forwad who can take the taps in the forward lines but being realistic needs a full season on the ball park and maybe then u could give him 3-4 in the second half of the season

We still have 5 spots to fill on the list, so I will wait and see who else the club recruits before nominating my best forward 6.

What I will say, I don't believe Hentchel will play CHF immediately, he is likely to start from the goal Square.... that is, if he is ready by round 1

The club has couple of big decision, they need to make a decsion on Bock, do we settle Bock up forward or down back

They also need to make decisions on Tippett and Griffen, my view, Griffen has all the makings of a pretty good forward, the club should prepare Griffen all pre-season to play as a leading forward

The forward line could be built around:

Welsh, Hentschell, Porplyzia, Burton, Gill

Others in the mix: Griffin, McGregor, Johncock (released up forward?), Thompson, Vince, Douglas

But lets see how the draft plays out ...

I can answer that one, Bock should play at CHB. That is where I have seen him play his best football. Rutten at FB and Stevens can then take the 3rd forward. So With Biglands back, and Hentschell, Gill and Welsh there is something there to work with.

Agree with that, although Bock will need to build a good fitness base over summer as it appeared his motor had some misfiring cylinders this year.

Also agree with the comments on Porplyzia .. Is already a quality player ihmo and I can still see further improvement in him.

I am still in shock of Torney, always gave 110 percent, great in a heated contest, better than a few that have some how managed to stay on the list, once again a few favourites remain.

Shattered that Torney has gone, without him this year, would have been rooted after Basset went down.

WHY IS JERICHO STILL A CROW??

Talk about lucky. He's a dud.

i get nervous when i hear craig talking about moran as a long term chb becuase that to me means that bock will be played forward when his natural position is chb.
no problem with the delistings but i'd keep on eye on pfeiffer and if he's better than anything at #59 redraft him.
however, going down a youth path and keeping honest triers like doughty seems a tad silly. seems like torney lost out to adelaide's 30 yo rule however.
have a feeling that 2008 could bbe make or break year for craig with regards to longetivity - he may have to release the handbrake a bit or face the same thing that happened at norwood where the intense defensive aspects overrode the innate pleasure of playing footer.
always forgive your enemies...nothing annoys them so much
