Does anyone, including the actual umpires actually know exactly how this rule should be enforced? Arguably it was deliberate, but it would be good for this rule to actually be clarified.

It's like any rule - interpretation is determined by how the interpreter feels at the time

Like many rules in our great game, it is left to the interpretation of people who never played the game. It is why rules like that should be made black and white. If you rush a point, it's a free kick, simple.

Totally agreed, thats why i said it's the MOST STUPIDEST rule the AFL have ever brought in.
If they are pinged, it's an AUTOMATIC goal to the opposition, what crap that is. ! why bother even making them take the shot for goal when it's from point blank range anyway. At least in soccer with a penalty, the goalkeeper at least has SOME chance of saving it.

What u r saying tsg is that if a point is rushed, then it is an automatic goal to the opposition as who could possibly miss from the goal line? Is how we really want to see goals scored in our once great game?

For starters, I don't think there would be too many rushed behinds.

But I didn't say where the free kick should be taken. Or maybe a ball up on the edge of the goal square.

Already had a rant on another thread, so I'll keep this brief, but what is the point of having this rule if the umps are not going to pay the most blatant examples of it?!!!! Carr's non decision was a disgrace.

Well done to Port though. Wore St K down all night, and while both teams were terrible, they sucked a little less than us. To put it technically....

Geez, without Riewoldt there will be struggles at times. Kosi was terrible, and unlike last week with Goddard, we had nobody work hard and impose themselves in the forward 50.

If the person with the ball is under any type of pressure from the opposition, it's not a deliberate rushed behind. Obviously Carr was.

What a cop out. (to put it politely). So forgetting Carr's situation, hyopthetically, if a defender is on his knees, swarmed by opposition players and deliberately handballs it through for a point without a teammate in sight , that is fair game b/c he was under pressure?

Anyway, time for some sleep 8)

That's exactly right Saintal. If the player is under real pressure he is allowed to rush it as per your example. The thing is that Carr was under perceived pressure and could have quite easily handballed forward or towards the boundary without it quite going over.
