A draw next week ;)

In 1977 the NRL Grand Final drew as well [St George and Parramatta, St George won the replay the following week] ...
But yes, it was a pretty pointless comment wasn't it?!

Now wouldn't that be farcical!

They will surely have to introduce extra time for next week's match.
Just in case...

No not according to the AFL rules of Football, draw next week and we come back again

I suppose those who are still around who were involved in 1977 should be asked what goes on. Just copy what they did then.

Don't think the VFL was that commercialised back in '77........

But for a match that's not expected, I don't see why they need to make it difficult for themselves. It's all extra revenue anyway.

More revenue for the AFL. They would be loving it.

The AFL can change things from week to week - ala the 2006 Saints/Freo match, so I'd expect a change there.

Yeah i guess the president of the club should be on the ground telling the captain to settle down after he just sprayed the AFL on national tv. I dont follow them but dont knock him for looking after his club.

How will next weeks game affect the crowd at our Final?

He is not a match day official so therefore should not be on the ground

Yep, how many times has he kicked poorly, but Collingwood have covered his misses and still won?
Inside 50s were something like 62 to 35

Saints got out jail like North Melbourne in '77 (Pies were 29 points up at 3/4 time in that game).

spare a thought for Brad Johnson, 360 odd games and no grand finals, and next week will be sean Dempsters 83rd game and it will be his fifth Grand Final. 05,06,09 and two in 2010

Not only a remarkable result, but the game was truly worthy of a nail biting finish.

Collingwood had the run of it for the first 15 minutes before St.Kilda held sway for the last portion of the first quarter to stay in touch.

By half time the game was, it appeared, one kick from over. Collingwood kick the first of the second half and might have been too much to catch up for a St.Kilda team struggling in their own forward 50.

The third quarter sees St.Kilda hold Collingwood from scoring while chipping away at the margin. 3/4 time and game on.

St.Kilda have the best of the last 1/4 but dont have the finish in them.

For mine, that was one for the ages and I am so glad I avoided all the piss ups I was invited to and decided to sit home with my son and a mate of mine and his son, just 4 of us watching intently. I just cant wait to do it all again next weekend.

Who took the most out of the game?

Was the fact St.Kilda showed it can match it with Collingwood more important than the fact Collingwood have another chance to complete the season worthy of a side that finished top and took all before it?

I just dont know who culd benefit from such and absorbing and draining contest.

I think St Kilda would. In post match interviews Goddard was focused on next week. Although he did throw in a joke about his holiday plans. Meanwhile in the Black and White corner their club captain was more focused on giving his opinion on the replay rules rather than getting on with it for next week.

I must also add. During the second quarter when Didak got poleaxed, how bloody good was that?

Every Australian who does not barrack for Collingwood was excited by that very moment.

CRUNCH!!

Looks that way!!

For the stats nuts
1948 - Essendon-Melbourne drew, and Melbourne won the re-play
1977 - North Melbourne-Collingwood drew, and North won the re-play
Note that the side that kicked the most behinds on both occasions lost the replay

...and both minor premiers lost the replay...

Not so fast.
North kicked 22 behinds to Coll's 16 in the draw the booted 25 to Coll's 10 in replay.
9.22.76 to 10.16.76 in the draw, 21.25.151 to 19.10.124 in the replay.
