I was a lot happier with second best in 89 than I was in 95.

No and No. 94 was a bit different though. We had no right to be in that. We were pretty banged up but somehow got past better sides in Carlton and North. West Coast v North would have been the better game. Hocking was on one leg and I still haven't seen a better defensive unit than Eagles 94. They were a bloody good side as were all the teams that rolled the Cats. I actually think our best chance was 93 but Blight played silly buggers trying ot make us more defensive and by the time we got a run on we missed the six. That was the year where opportunity knocked and it was Essendon who grabbed one ahead of time.

Strange call from yourself, I would find it odd you would prefer to see you team thump by 16 players rather than being competitive. Whilst you are right the lower you finish the better it is for draft picks, but at some point you are just installing a losing culture within your football club.

Don't you want to see some development by your younger players?
Your team to give 100% and provide a contest and play for the jumper?

Of course I want to see devolpment and commitment.
We all do.
Carlton are shite and have been for far too long.

But the original post was about Gibbs coming home to play finals and it looks very likely that he won’t!

"Whilst the club acknowledges the personal reasons behind Bryce's request, he is a contracted player and we intend to work through those matters with both him and his management," head of football Andrew McKay said.

Of course it’s better to be competitive but there is only one winner each year and the rest are losers in varying degrees

Former Kangaroo now Adelaide Crow Sam Gibson, 32, has announced he will retire from the AFL at the end of this year and look for a job in the construction industry.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to play at the highest level with both the Kangaroos and the Crows,” Gibson said.
“North Melbourne gave me a chance when no-one else would and I had six wonderful years at Arden Street with some friendships and memories I’ll cherish forever.
“It was a privilege to come to Adelaide late last year and be a part of this football club.
“There’s a fantastic group of players and coaches here that will no doubt have success in the near future.
“For me, I’m looking forward to the next chapter, either here in Adelaide or back in Melbourne.
“I was a graduate engineer before I was drafted and hope to get back into construction, which is something I really love.”

good luck to him, I didnt mind getting him on the cheap as I thought he was a pretty decent player, injuries seem to have wrecked any chance he had at consistent footy though

He played 130 odd games straight while at the roos. I think our fitness staff have a bit to answer for, for his current run of injuries.
