But i honestly believe Hodges elbow was actually an attempt at heavy forearm push to the chest that went wrong.

No where near as bad as Lewis swinging arm which if it wasn't on a footy field would have been considered a 'king' hit.

Totally agree.

Rubbish decision by the tribunal

And purely good fortune and nothing else that Goldstein didnt get knocked out or end up with a broken jaw. May's suspension a joke imho.

May's suspension is a blight on the game.
Hodge, even though as suggested it was supposed to be a heavy forearm to the chest - there was clear intent to force contact, regardless of the fact it went wrong.
Lewis, well that was like going back to the 70's and 80's

On first reaction I agreed with you, but after seeing the several replays last night on Footy Classified, he actually does make a bee line for Rockliff. There was nothing stopping him going for the ball and absorbing contact at the same time. He chose to make contact first, then go for the ball whereas Rockliff only had eyes on the ball.
3 weeks is a joke, should have gotten one for it though.

Tribunal has been pretty good this year. Until now, That decision baffles me. Yes it's unfortunat what happened to Rockcliff (and no one wants to see Players get injured) But it's a contact sport and that was just an unfortunate incident.

Surely Gold Coast appeal that???

I'm with you on that one.

Now May has 3 weeks, what an absolute joke.

Looked like a good bump to me

if May grabs the ball and is tackled - he would get done for holding the ball.
I have no problem with the bump.

Did Rockliff get a free kick for it??

May gets 3 weeks as a result of the injury incurred not for the intent

If intent came into it, then Hodge and Lewis would of got off also as both did not intend to get their victims in the head

but they intended to hit their victims with force in a situation that wasn't necessary

Which is the same reason the tribunal gave May. He had a choice and he chose to bump.

and a bump is an action that part of the game, it was a hip n shoulder, it didn't have any raised elbows, he stood his ground to make contact, he didn't go out of his way to put the bump on

what the hawks players did isn't part of the game

Like Brendon Goddard said its the easy option to do the bump on an opponent the tougher option is put your head over the ball and get the thing.

But May was going for the ball. He protected his space and went for the ball. It was smart play. Where was Rockliff's peripheral vision?
Absolute disgrace. Thank Christ I don't watch much of this shit any more and only stay in contact with the AFL through Offsiders, Talking Footy and Footy Classified.

I watch classified last night for about 7 minutes and turned it off. Hutchy would have to be the biggest wanker on tv at the moment.

May as well just outlaw the bump altogether now.

After the bump is gone, what is the next progression to turning the sport into a soccer/netball hybrid? No contact? Zones?

Agree Arch and Zartan.
Normally I can put up with him to watch Footy Classified, but last night he was insufferable.

Isn't 2 blokes going for the ball at the same time physical?

Yeah i'm just sick of the ambiguity that seems to surround the bump everytime some one gets hit - and even more the level of punishment dished out.

I understand contact to the head is forbidden, but the game is played at a fair speed and decisions are split second - are players supposed to calculate if they're too tall to bump or work out the odds of making head contact? Why cant players just go hard at it and realise occasionally there will be accidents through no deliberate fault?

I just think if the ball is your priority keep it that way and you wont have that decision that needs to be made. If May didn't take his eyes off it and they collided and Rockliff still gets knocked out that's different and they are still going hard at it. I think the game is too fast now for the bump, but it doesn't mean it is less physical.

I agree with that in the main, but in this instance May was just protecting his space .. If he rushes the ball out of bounds he gets penalised, takes possession he's a good chance to get pinged HTB and penalised too. It's just an accidental collision. Were the tribunal able to say %100 the concussion wasn't a result of Rockliff's head hitting the turf?

Watched a couple of times tonight on 360 and looks to me he was out cold before he hit the ground.
