Round 7 - live scores , results & what's gone down.

Talk on the national game

What would these panel experts have done back in the day if in the same position? What would they have said if a player they coached pulled out of a contest and instead decided to pirouette away like a ballerina?

Disgraceful

Dermott Brereton has the right idea - get a few high profile ex-players to start boycotting AFL events, add in a bunch of current players not going to the Brownlow (especially those fancied to win), players do a Jack Riewoldt and impose a media ban on themselves and the general public pick a game en masse not to attend and hurt the AFL where most of their focus is.......in the wallet. With organised large numbers of people having the same voice on issues like this maybe the AFL will take a bit of notice. Or they'll just stick their heads up their a$$e$ like usual and continue ruining our once great game.
Whoever suggested pirouetting out of contests really is wanting the ABL (Australian Ballet League) not the AFL.

Almost fell off my chair when I heard about that quote!

Could we possibly see Viney cop more than 2 games when he appeals tomorrow night?

No, he is not at risk of getting more.
It will either stay at 2 or he gets off

don't ya love it how Andy, now that he is no longer in charge, just says how he feels which is how the majority of footy fans feel and how he gives Mark Evans and Gill a hospital handball!
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

Will get off purely because of the public pressure, there will be no rule or interpretation changes though

The Tribunal need to go back to looking at the intent as the major denomination not the outcome and injury to the victim imho

Some will agree with him, but the PR department at the Corporation must really wonder why he's so slow on the uptake.

What about Ollie Wines comment then

Yep exactly. If the head clash still occurs but he miraculously doesn't get hurt then he wouldn't have been suspended and that's what is wrong

Wish they would stop using the "frame by frame" to determine intent .. Fair enough to find the point of impact, but FFS the game isn't played frame by frame

Barrett is trying to argue that we all want the shirtfront back. I don't think anyone wants that. But turning to protect yourself is completely different. He is deliberately conflating the two different forms if contact.

If the AFL are serious about protecting the head and really taking that thug, dirty element out the game I can handle the likes of the Douglas (off the ball hit imho) and the Glass hit on Wingard (intent in the hit imho) getting bigger suspensions ala 4-5 weeks (i know its harsh) provided the accidental hits with no intent get away without being suspended.

Exactly right, I was only saying that yesterday to a friend. Find the point of impact using frame by frame, but play the incident in real time and look at how quick it all happens and the reaction times needed.

Anyone who says he could've done different after watching frame by frame should be put in the same situation and see how they fair!

Would love to see Melbourne boycott the decision of the mrp and field viney regardless. I think that would be ealky refreshing to see a little us verse them rater than the bending over conformity we see today. On a side note I love the sought of coments wines and walker are making. Nothing worse than PC people. If you think it has merit, then say it. **** the image and public perception.

One would be a lot of respect from the football community. I think most posters on here would respect it, it would also show the players have a voice and that the mrp can not dictate what our great game should look like. Other than this, I'm outta ideas. This is just wrong though.

I reckon the game would be called off if they willingly tried to play a suspended player.
