You know what guys, I enjoyed the game. I suspect to hear plenty about the game in the coming days. The media will beat this up to something like a blood bath - because thats what they do. As for the AFL they hate anything that is even close to hard football. So we will hear more about it. Which will be dissapointing, as im sure Brogan will get done for charging, Pettigrew will be lucky if he gets one and Thomas will be made an example of by a soft AFL - Even though the B.Pickett will act as a pricedence for this same case. Anyway end rant, happy monday people.

Let me just say that I never want to see players get hurt, I just love a good contest and bit C%#$ in the game is good.

Brogans two big bumps yesterday were great bumps, hard, effective and FAIR. No thuggery there.

I think we have all forgotten what a hip and shoulder is. Since its ban from AFL fooball a few years ago.

FWIW,my opinion is the match was a flash back to the football we watched in times gone by,and to some extent, the footy we see at grass roots level.(SANFL,VFL)

For mine only one incident should be looked at,and that is Thomas.Brogan was fine and Pettigrew just clumsy (as he can be and it may cost him, may) But,there is a precedent in the Thomas case (Pickett) and he should get off*.
Is that tackle good for the game? Not really. If it policed too hard, would it be bad for the game? I think so.

Although being bitterly dissappointed at the loss I can only be positive as our game against Sydney we showed none of that passion. This clash every 6 months should be like that, and both clubs (more so Port) should play that bloody hard.

For a few years to begin with Port fans and the players had a real hunger to beat Adelaide, for many reasons. At times being to the detriment of our whole season as the focus was on the next clash perhaps weeks before it happened. Then, after some early succes in the Showdowns Port began to win a few and the pressure (IMO) went back on Adelaide to get at the 'new boy in town' and this may have hurt them at times too.

This was a cracking game, will be remembered for a while and I hope it gives my boys enough confidence to bounce back against Brisbane.

Exactly, and because there are less big hip and shoulders given now, players aren't very good at being aware of when one could be coming and protecting themselves.

Great comment Booney. I would love to see Port come out and play that hard, aggressive style of play every week. We need to start intimidating teams again. Definately a painful loss, but so many positives came out of it.

Ebert back to the magpies this week. Extremely poor three weeks in a row.

I would like to see Pearce and Thompson switch jumpers this week.

Lade and Brogan a tried and tested combo, but both are not getting any younger and I feel it is time to get some games under Delucas belt.Lade could play forward more (perhaps aiding to solve our current forward woes)

Thought the game was a belter - was good hard footy - The Thomas tackle was a bit dangerous, and could have been looked at, but the Brogan hip and shoulder was just hard footy. The Crows responded perfectly by keeping their cool and continuing to play good footy when tested. Kept their minds on the job, instead of getting rattled. Some of the ruck free kicks were soft, and should have been allowed to go on bit over umpired in that respect IMO.
I'm proud of you fellas. You all kept your head on a swivel, and that's what you gotta do when you find yourself in a vicious cock fight!

You are a gutless idiot.

Bassett made sure his fans knew he was alright and you think he should be put in a body bag next time? What a ridiculous comment.

I had to work down in the SE on Sunday so only got to watch the game yesterday, thought it was great. The two outstanding highlights for me was Macca's goal sthn end and the lead up and goal of Griffen, two steps and blam!
Thought all incidents were fair enough although some were getting border line, as an example when Porplysia was bumped, after handballing he had just enough time to tuck in his arm/shoulder to protect himself for it, to me that's getting a bit late then, if he had kicked it it would've been a FAD, I don't see the difference. If he wasn't able to ready himself for the bump I reckon it would've been ugly. It's a fine line, but that's footy. Another incident that you can see on tv, 3/4 I think, is McLeod about 5-10m off the ball, standing still facing the play and a Port player while running behind him elbows him in the back very hard as Macca's head and upper torso jolt forward pretty quickly, cheap shot sniping behind a player, gutless. When I've got time I'll try to see who it was.
Great game of footy though, Crows will take alot out of that win, footy like that is why we go to the SANFL.
'PAFC don't want any advantages in the SANFL. It would only take away from any achievements we earned.'
