mate you were right on the money :) :) :)

On Walker, as most of you have probably read, from memory he kicked 7 goals in a prelim and then 7 goal again in the GF at senior level

He only turns 18 next year, he is 190cm and 82kg's, so he will need to bulk up a bit.....

I am not sure about the standard of Broken Hill footy, the kid will obviously be hoping to make an impact at SANFL level, lets see how quickly he can develop.....

hold on a minute this is Broken Hill footy we are talking about here. Walker does have something going for him though being able to hold down a KPP spot in the rep side. The last Bloke to do that went on to play for Essendon and last year moved to the dockers

mate any 17 year old kicking 7 in a senior GF and wins best on ground is a fair effort, however, your right counts for zero come pre-season.......

this kid is obviously a natural forward, he had an impressive U/18 Carnival, and for a nice change the club has recruited a young natural forward, instead of a ruckman / forward

I looking forward to watching his progress

Cons 7 goals playing Broken Hill footy....speaking to an umpire from that league who was around tonight worst standard of country footy he's umpired in worse than KNT (previous two years he umpired KNT). I would hope the kid could stand out in that league otherwise......

Pro's he has been elevated based on his U?!8 carnival form form for NSW/ACRT we he shone out. My friend Broken Hill says he is very good for that league and shows an ability to share look for team mates and pick the best option.

HAs matured a lot too this year appraently i.e ot so big headed and has done a lot of hard work to improve his fitness.

S-Dog your opinion of him being 190 cm? a real in etweeen height a la Hinge too samll for key position and has he got the motor and footy smarts to be a mid-fielder....time will tell I susppose when he starts playing SANFL footy next year.

Welsh is the same height and he's a 50 goal guy. In time I'd be more than happy with that output from Walker.

It will be interesting to see just how well Walker does go in the next two seasons. SANFL League is a massive step up from Broken Hill. A lot of Crows fans are already talking like he will be a demi-god when all hes played in is a 3rd rate league.

Question to all

Didnt Gary Jones (ex centrals big forward) come out of that league and was successful down here,,, Peter Mueret was another favourite Broken Hill son and could play

What was their league like than compared to now,, any one have a clue????

I am excited that we have recruited a young natural forward, yes broken hill footy may not be as stong as other leagues, however his finals performance at senior level as a 17 year old was fantastic, no matter what the league

Walker's performance in this years National Championships was excellent, he won all australian selection, and Kevin Sheehan, the National Talent Manager said Walker would of been a top 20 pick, if not tied to Adelaide, the club was able to get him for nothing

Long term, I hope the kid is one of the answers to our forward issues, short term, he will require time and development in the SANFL

Lets remeember a young Roo once got BOG in a senior GF, in a third rate competition, as a 17 year old.....
I am not saying this kid is the next Roo, however, what I am saying, for any 17 year olds to play to this standard at senior level, is a good step in the right direction, and at least, he is already used to playing against men, most of the other draftees have only played against boys their own age

What a disgrace that Torney found out about his delisting by John Reid over the phone...piss poor Craig, at least do it yourself and face to face...

Dutchy

the process that was followed was

All players were inyerviewed face to face by Craigy prior to trade week, in Torney's case, Craigy told Torney in that interview prior to trade week that he was going to be delisted and the reasons why, however, the final absolute decision would not be made until after the trade period.

Heading in to the trade period, Torney knew his career with Adelaide was hanging by a thread, and that thread was such a small glimer of hope, he knew the reasons for the decision....

The phone call from JR, was to confirm the decision as discuseed in the meeting with Craigy, whether this confirmation should of been done face to face it is arguable.

In regards to JR delivering this news, well this is not different to other clubs..... for example Geelong, Bomber will interview the players, tell them exactly where they were in his plans, however Balme would delivered the absolute confirmation...

Cloke last year said he had NO discussion with Malthouse at all prior to his sacking, R Shaw said tthis year he had no discussion with Malthouse regarding possibly being traded, where are Mick's critics

If Craigy had not met with Jason face to face prior to the trade week, than I have a real issue with JR delivering the final news by phone, would I of delivered the final confirmation face to face, probably yes in Jason's case.... however it all comes down to what was discussed and agreed too in the post season face to face interview between Neil and Jason, at tis stage none of us know

just cause other clubs do it that way doesnt make it right....why couldnt Craig be the one to deliver the news? Surely it would also be an opportunity for him to thank the guy personally for his service to the club and wish him all the best...

I believe its pathetic...

as i said, Craigy had a face to face, one on one with Jason prior to Trade week, unless we are able to find out the exact details and context of this discussion, it makes it difficult to access whether JR' s phone call was appropriate

My information is, Torney was told at that meeting with NC that he was not in Adelaide's plan for 2008, however the club would not make any absolute final call until the end of trade period...

Both parties may of walked away and agreed, that a phone call from JR to confirm either way was ok, we do not know....

I do know, Torney walked away from his meeting with NC knowing, it was a remote chance of playing for the AFC in 2008 and the reassons for that decision...., my view, this is the most critical part of the process...

I personallly, rather have all the information prior to making Judgement calls.

For example, from a distance, I could form an opinion, that the way the Kanga's handled the Laidley situation was a disgrace and hard on Dean's family......

However, I do not have all the information, so I refuse to throw stones based on media reports

It was JR who delivered the infamous news to Bone, Jars & Freddy

I think the Football Manager is the top of the tree before the CEO in most footy clubs?

Dutchy at face value it sounds less than ideal but I am sure NC and the Club have a process for departing players that involves appropriate recognition at the right time. Face to face is always preferred but maybe circumstances didn't allow it before the media got wind of it. Who knows? Without all the facts a quick judgement call is a bit unfair.

Josh Kennedy's manager was very unhappy with the communication to Josh by the Carlton FC - particularly when he had been told earlier in the season that he was one of a handful of players CFC would build their team for the next 10 years around.

This is the less glamorous side of AFL footy unfortunately.

Some players are good at ground level, Jericho must just be good on his hands and knees. :^o :butthead:
