They were both traded to the Crows - Gill was picked up in the draft. Trades of senior players happen every year and a reasonable number are positives for everyone concerned.

Drafted after age 22 or 23 would be what I consider a mature age pick. Not many turn out too positive.

Yes, but someone currently "in the system" is all I was pointing out.

Far more unlikely to get a successful result when recruiting someone who is out of the system and over the age of 22, IMO.

dont mean to spoil the party, but kicking is reasonably important in footy. im still not entirely convinced but enjoyed his work up the ground and he tries hard which is always a good thing

Edwards for your mob is another mature age recruit success story

I'd dispute that. He plays a good quarter or two before getting dropped - this was his first game for some time.

Kicked 4.1 on the weekend and early in the season was leading the league in contested marks

LOL you're right there, he had such a negligible impact on SA footy overall its pretty easy to forget that fact.

Also believe, if memory serves me, that he was assigned to Norwood through the mini draft as well ;)

That one gets worse for both clubs ... to pick up Downsborough, Port used up/wasted one of their 4 AFL listed players they were allowed to get from other clubs for nothing  Along with Primus, Wanganeen and Hueskes (I think those 3 are right)

Then ..... Downsborough was traded to the Crows  for Brett Chalmers and still neither player could get it together at their new clubs.

Did Downsborough have some incriminating photos or something?

North supporters will love Gill no matter what.
I'm a crows fan.
Impressed by his marking ability and strong frame.
But be fuc<ed if i want to see another "tryer" in the team.
Workrate is fine, but forward work unrewarded by goals is dead.
He showed me potential.
Now he needs to capitalise and not hover at the same level as Perrie.
If i was Nick Gill, i would hate being compared to him.
Gills decision making is already better.
And he appears more athletic.
But Matthew Pavlich is a "tryer" as well, difference is he puts it on the scoreboard.
Try all you want, effectiveness is the key.

Another great game by Gilly, he brings so much to that team that they didn't have before.
Its funny how some people had a go at Adelaide for recruiting him and even started spouting that they'd prefer Westhoff.
If Adelaide hadn't recruited Gill they wouldn't be in the finals.
If Port hadn't recurited Westhoff they'd be in exactly the same position they're in now.
Gilly's made a huge impact, even Dennis Commetti's noticed it.

Kicked a great long 50m goal from a set shot

Great pair of hands

Huge effort charging at that contested ball with Clement which created another goal

Suddenly an important part of our forward line which is starting to look dangerous
