So where does he rate Dutchy? Is he in the top 50 footballers to have played the game? Top 100? top 1,000?

Theres been a lot of footballers in the last 130 years. Sav was a decent footballer, but to say hes one of the best EVER is just ridiculous.

No......Idea

GWW....the arguement about being in the Hall of Fame no one seems to want to take on, every player in the Top 20 goalkickers of all time are int he Hall of Fame except Carey, Lloyd, Richardson who will all be in the HOF in time....surely Im not the only one to see that this would mean Sav would have to be a huge chance? BTW whats the objective of football? to kick goals....

anyone want to challenge this or ignore the fact that every player in the Top 20 goalkickers in the history of our game has or will be in the HOF?

That is a measure of the worth of the Hall of Fame, not of Sav, who was a moderately good footballer who managed to stick around for a long time. He was never consistent enough to be "great".

I'd rate Sav Rocca higher than Dean Kemp!

I think Sav will go down as a footballer somewhere between "good" and "great", in a similar category to Neitz, Richo (who i certainly wouldn't have in the HoF), McKernan, Larkin, Primus, Heady, Liberatore etc etc. Hall of Fame nominees should be absolutely elite, and when it comes down to it, Sav, whilst achieving quite a bit in his career is not in the elite. Thats my opinion anyway.

I think if you asked non Collingwood and Kangaroos supporters, a very small percentage would agree with S Rocca going into the Hall of Fame, and its pretty much seen on this thread that thats the case.

Players should not enter the HOF just because they have accumulated a certain statistic over a long career.

Longevity at full forward gave Sav a high goal count but surely there is no other basis for grouping him with some of the greats of the game in that list.

Some would say that Anthony is the better Rocca and even he would be a stretch to make the HOF.

IMO, a good player - possibly a very good player on his day, but not HOF material, regardless of how many goals he kicked over 15 seasons or so.

Dutchy I know we have argued about Sav before but I think you have your blue&white tinted glasses on when you assess his career

Anthony better than Sav?

All im saying is he is underrated and that is confirmed here, as the list shows there aint many players that averaged 3 goals a game for over 200 games, that in itself is very very strong statistic and the reason virtually all of the Top 20 goalkickers of all time are in the HOF

If Mathew Richardson Makes the Hall of Fame, it would just go to show what a Crock of Shit the whole thing is.
Sav Rocca in same category as Richo, Handy players who NEVER Fullfilled their Potential.
Hall of Famers should be Reserved only for footballers who Excelled over their career. If Rocca and Richo were inducted, it would only DE-VALUE the efforts of the other inductees. (In MY opinion).

Geez so you reckon Richo and Sav should have averaged more than 3 goals per game?

As Wedgie mentioned Dean Kemp is in the HOF and fair dinkum he was a good ordinary player

Agree about Dean Kemp.

Does anyone Know what the Criteria is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame??

Is it on How many Games you Played?
How many Goals you kicked?
How good you were?
Whether you are a Victorian?

My Gut Feeling is that Players like Richo and Sav Didn't Realize their full potential so shouldn't be in there BUT under the criteria set out may be obvious choices.

As a Collingwood supporter, I do not think Sav is a shoe-in for the HOF- neither is Richo.
These guys were/are GOOD full forwards, not brilliant.
Sav sits ahead of Hudson on the goal-kicking list, yet I'd argue Hudson had a greater inmpact on the game.

Archer- yes
Carey- yes
Sav- no

Carey was a Captain, B&F winner, led the Roos to 2 flags & dominated the comp for 5 years or so- ie he had other attributes/strings to his bow.
Yes, I'm aware that Sav won a B&F @ Collingwood, but in my opinion, has not done enough to qualify, but I don't thin Dean Kemp did either.

At the rate the AFL are going, you only need to play AFL or VFL to qualify...

I guess Im basing my arguement on those that are in there now, not what I believe the criteria should be, based on the current criteria he is a huge chance
