*Clarkson hits out over Daniher axing*
Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has slammed Melbourne's handling of the departure of coach Neale Daniher.
Daniher will coach his final game with the Demons tonight after announcing earlier this week he would not be seeking a new contract with the club.
Melbourne chairman Paul Gardner yesterday denied the club's approach to the future of its coach of the past 10 years had been insulting.
Clarkson says a man of Daniher's standing should have been treated better.
"A guy as respected and dignified and humble and courageous as Neale Daniher... I don't think it's a reflection of the enormous contribution he's made to footy over 30 years, I reckon he deserves a lot better," Clarkson said.
Meanwhile Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams says his deputy Dean Bailey would make a good coach of the Demons.
A big field of candidates is expected to apply for the job to replace Daniher.
Bailey played for Essendon and Glenelg and Williams says he has the right credentials.
"Dean Bailey is certainly a person that I believe is capable of coaching AFL footy and I know that some people, even Robert Walls, have even spoken of him," he said.
"They'd go a long way to getting the right person if they gave him an interview and he showed what he knew and what he's seen and what he's done."
