Aussie Rules is not Rugby League.

I learn so much from you ME....amazing really

Majority of sports have a result at the end of the game NHL, Basketball, Baseball, Rugby, Tennis, Golf....why not aussie rules? if you dont agree please tell me the point of having a draw as a result???

The biggest sport in the world doesn't always have a result.

agree but you only get a third of the points not half, that itself is a penalty for a draw

That recreational pursuit only changed its rules 15 years ago becasue they realised it was too easy to have a draw so they somehow had to encourage teams to go for a win...

Pfft still get boring nil-all draws....

One day the world will wake up and realise what they've been following for years aint that much of a sport...typical 80TM soccer rant over

IMO a draw is a fitting result for our game, the best game in the world. Just because some no-name coach (Wallace) doesn't think its fitting and other sports have succomed to the OT rule doesn't wmean we have to be blind sheep and follow other sports that are only half as good as ours.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Tassie...the idea of playing for 120 minutes is to get a result...a draw is not a result and benefits no one

Why play OT in finals and not in the regular season??...makes no sense...

Most people seem to claim the Tiges should have won - naturally being a draw they have legitimate claims - However I thought the Lions were the first team to blow their chance ... Leading by just over 2 goals with 10 min's to play, the Lions were meandering and missed 3 VERY gettable shots on goal, effectively leaving the door open for the Tigers to swoop.

Wasn't an awesome game by any standard, with skill errors in abundance, however the margin between the teams kept an element of excitement ... Certainly the standard of play didn't.

Richmond have some good kids and the future is not all bleak if they can continue their development.

A draw does plenty to effect the teams. A team with a poor percentage will take the draw almost as good as a win. A team with a good percentage will see the draw as a bad result. That is unless other teams have had a draw as well.

Only have to look at the current SANFL situation with North and South drawing. The draw was better for South than it was for North.

I don't see a problem with a draw. It hardly ever happens. They replay the Grand Final if it is a draw.

Exactly...they replay to get a result, they dont put both teams name on the trophy...one rule during the regular season another in the finals...makes no sense

Completely different scenarios though, in the finals they MUST have a winner to see who is knocked out, who goes on to play next week, who gets a week off etc. Grand Final they need a winner to decide who is the #1 team in the comp. During the season they don't need this at all.

In the biggest club competition in the world, the European Champions League, they have group stages where they allow draws but in the finals there must be a result so they will play extra time and have penalties if required. There is no need to americanise the sport by having 'OT'.

Minor Round

Win........4 Points

Draw......2 Points

Loss.......0 Points

Minor Round is simply all about teams Qualifying for the Finals so O/T is NOT needed to decide games where as in Finals, there has to be a winner one way or another for the finals series to run to Schedule.
DUTCHY, I hope this explains the difference between Minor Round Games and Finals and why the need to play O/T in one but not the other.

Also Players would Probably go on strike if wern't paid Bonuses for Overtime.

still makes no sense not to get a result....

Why is it OK to determine a result in finals by playing OT???

3 different laws in 1 season -

Regular Season - No OT, its a draw
Finals - OT gets a result
GF - no OT they replay the match!!!

Unbelievable no wonder people outside the country cant understand our game!!!!

Settle down fella.People from outside our country dont understand the finer points of our game, but Im sure most would understand the points system.

The game has been like this (other than the finals OT rule) for years, and has never been questioned, why the uproar?

I'll concede that the Grand Final should have O/T as a Re-Played GF just wouldn't have the same Build up and anticipation as the original and imagine if the unthinkable happened and the replay was a draw as well
Still DONT need O/T in Minor Round though as for over 100 years there has been NO need to and until there is a need to, LEAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

The result is a draw. It is still a result. You can bet on a draw.

Soccer is the biggest game in the world and they have similar rules regarding overtime in finals, but not during minor round. It's not that hard to understand?

I agree with dutchy - it is time that the AFL looked at running games into overtime.

Hmmm lets see, maybe...

1. A result? No more games where players have busted thier guts out for no reason.
2. High-pressure entertaining football for fans? You honestly can't say that every game you have watched this year has been entertaining football?
