Clubs didnt sell out for $,they chose to help the game (more importantly the TV rights,as this is the biggest money spinner for the AFL) these clubs should be commended for not getting their collective heads stuck up their own arses thinking they are bigger than the game itself!

Note to Collingwood, Essendon,Richmond-GET OVER YOURSELVES!

You monkeys wanted a 'national comp',now you've got it,and you dont win it.If the hat fits.....

Exactly right. Some clubs *cough* Collingwood *cough* only care about making money, yet they refuse to see that a alternate jumper will make them more money.

Collingwood offered up an alternative that was predominately white , like Freo and the bulldogs but rejected it. What more can you do?!

Great point Booney!

Those three acted like king dick in the 80's claiming they were better than everyone else.

Now with a chance to prove it on the field, the best they can do is create diversions about jumpers, umpires, tribunals, and how many games they have to play outside Victoria!

We that make up 'the rest' will just continue winning flags and dominating the AFL.

Time for some truth PAP. BOULTON said in the first season of existance " We have no desire of ever wearing the black and white in the AFL."

Backed up further by Brian Cunningham when members of the cheersquad were hauled in for wearing the black and white saying "We have nothing to do with that club and we will consider revoking your membership if you persist in wearing that jumper to games."

The License is owned by the 9 SANFL clubs just like the Crows and the Magpies are the Port Adelaide. The power are the new entity!

And PAP if Collingwood is alll about making money why bag them for not making more money by having an alternate jumper?

The Port Adelaide Football Club, often referred to as simply Port, is an Australian rules football club based in Adelaide, South Australia. From its foundation in 1870 to 1996, the club representing Port Adelaide competed in the SANFL as the "Port Adelaide Magpies", then in 1997 joined the Australian Football League [AFL]. On entry, Port Adelaide adopted a new nickname (The Power) and added two more colours (silver and teal) in a requirement to differentiate itself from an existing AFL club, the Collingwood Football Club.

As far as the Boulton and Cunno comments, I will not be commenting on that until I've spoken to the president of the Port Adelaide Cheer Squad, who will confirm or deny this.

As for the Power being a new entity, no they are not. If they are a new club, why are they not the Port Adelaide Power Football Club.

We are the Port Adelaide Football Club est 1870. They played in the SANFL winning 34 premierships, in 1996, they won entrance into the AFL, and to keep a Port Adelaide presence in the SANFL, the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club was created.

Both clubs share the history, heritage, tradition and records from 1870-1996. That's fact.

As I have just said to THE CHIEF via PM, I was only 10 years old and living in the Riverland at the time, so I don't know anything about that, and I will not comment on it. But whether that happened or not (I'm not saying it didn't) is not the issue.

The issue is that people are saying the Power are a new entity, when that is false. The Power are the same PAFC that played in the SANFL as the Magpies pre-1996. The only thing different is that they are in a different league, with two extra colors and a different nickname.

Honestly this ongoing argument is like the chicken and the egg...........ofcourse the Power are the Port Adelaide Football Club that has a license to play in the AFL..........the Port Adelaide Magpies play SANFL.......the Powers Heritage comes from the original Maggies est 1870................now thats not opinion its fact.

a team called "Port Power" entered the league season starting in 1997 (their first game they got FLOGGED by Collingwood!).
Port Power entered in on a license owned by 9 SANFL clubs.

That is fact.

Brisbane's jumper

Postby Roylion » Wed May 09, 2007 9:00 am

I'm trying to like Brisbane's alternative jumper, but just can't warm to it, especially when there's so many better ways a Lions' light clash jumper could be designed.

Still, Roys of all persuasions are looking forward to the Fitzroy guernsey making its' next AFL appearances in Rounds 14 and 19. Round 19's appearance will preceed a huge Fitzroy-Brisbane player reunion at the Melbourne Convention Centre that night where every player (or if deceased, their nearest relative) that has pulled on a senior jumper for Fitzroy, the Bears or the Brisbane Lions in the last 124 years will be attending.

Technically Punky the club that entered the AFL in 1997 was the same club that won the 1996 SANFL Grand Final.

The legal entity (club) that played in the SANFL for 100 years is now playing in the AFL as Port Adelaide Power. The Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club was a new legal entity created in 1997 to field a team in the SANFL which was 1 team short once PAFC left.

Yes, the AFL license is owned by the SANFL but that is probably no different to the contractural relationship they have with the Crows and the 9 SANFL teams. The individual clubs are still owned by their members not the SANFL. Tassie would be a better authority on this side than me I expect. Or any club official out there?

Where it gets in to the area of opinion is when Port Supporters try to apply the credit for the 100 years history to both the Power in the AFL and the Magpies in the SANFL. It has to be one or the other.
