Therein lies the problem. There seems to be a thought process these days that to be successful in the media you have to be controversial, and a general pain in the arse. The fact that Sam Newman has been able to forge a successful career in the sporting media supports my point.
I prefer my sporting commentators to be factual rather than sensational. I don't care how boring they may be, I just want to hear earnest discussion on the game, not all this other rubbish portrayed in the media.
Likewise, I'd love to see the print media go back to the 60s and 70s where they wrote about the game only, to a time when you heard rumours in clubs and bars, not emanating from the media.
Has the game really become so boring that we need all this garbage in the media to capture our interest?
