Right, I'm over it.
Tazz is 26, & I think we've seen the best of him.
Pick 8 (& 10) is sensational in a draft of this quality, & Medhurst is not our saviour, but capable of plugging a few holes in the fwd line- ironically he's a 50 goal player, Tazz only ever kicked over 50 twice...
Will not throw my Tarrant badge away, & hope some good young kid inherits the famous "20", so I don't have to get my jumper altered.

I don't really follow AFL so I don't know - but why did Tarrant leave Collingwood anyway? Was he pushed or did he want out?

Fremantle didn't do bad at all really.

That is, if they win a flag in the next three years.
It's now or never - especially giving up pick 8 in this draft.

But I think TOO much is made of what changes hands in the draft. You can't look at what youre losing - just what you're getting.

DISS

i agree that clubs have to look at what they are getting and not what they are losing, but i dont feel that FREO have gained that much compared to what they gave up.

I may be completely wrong and that and both TARRANT and SOLOMAN may be really good solid players for them but i find it hard to see.

I guess you can look at it that in a way, Freo have only gained from this deal:

Medhurst and Polak probably wouldn't have made it into the best 22, so basically haven't lost out here.
Polak was touted as a star centre-half back, but didn't live up to his promise. Freo have young Johnson who will be a star, to fill that position now.
Medhurst is an opportunistic small forward. Freo already have Farmer to fill this roll, and when both played it didn't work for them. Tarrant coming into the side is a huge plus for them: he can kick at least 30 or 40 goals, and now Connelly has the option to play Pavlich up the ground in a Goodes-type role.

Solomon is a stange selection. Fair to say he probably wouldn't be in their best 22 right now, but what he does add is experience and hardness in a side which already has its fair share of hard-at-the-ball type players - who (based on the premiership sides of the last 5 or 6 years) are players who win you premierships.

Not trying to convince anyone MT79! Just giving another outlook.

Basically Tarrant could either prove to be another Croad-like waste (like I said earlier) or a Barry Hall type pick-up ala Sydney.

I guess we will just have to wait and see what eventuates in 2007, but there is no denying that Freo have built a formidable looking list, albeit on paper!!

1980TM

Mate, not pissed off, your spot on, the crows took the gamble and lost and lets face it Freo has given up a fair bit to gain Tarrant's services, and as I mentioned in the other thread, the four year deal may bottle neck them down the track in either retaining good young players or attracting players such as Moody who have expressed an interest to move back to WA

Tarrant comes with huge expectations it will be interesting to see how he delivers and interesting to see how he and the club manges the situation if he has a form slump like this year

In regards to Solomon, I know he is best mates wwith Tarrant but he has not produced for 3-4 years and he is slow and will get smashed on the WA fast tracks

Syd-Dog my I wasn't refering the Crows not being able to trade, I was refering to my "window" comment.

The last ten years have shown other clubs do not like trading with us, for whatever reasons......

yes well everyone knows my thoughts on the window

it's hard to say if clubs do or don't like trading with Adel, once again it comes down to relationships, some clubs just may not want to deal with certain clubs

we have done ok previously, players such as Thompson, Clarke, Welsh, Torney, Massie, S. Stevens and M Stevens, Carey, Burns, Bassett, Bode, T Bond and D jarman

so we have got some good service out of these blokes

Wouldnt say we got much out of Burns and Scott Stevens wouldnt have played and probably wouldnt have a club next year, had injuries not given him a run early this season.

Burns agree, S Stevens, injuries gave him his opportunity and he was solid

Guys

On polak, this kid is 22yrs, already played 70 games and had a quiet season, this can happen with young players, especially key position players, this decision may come back and haunt them

In regards to Solomon, lets be brutally honest, he is a hack, he is to slow and his skill level is poor, the powewrful bomber side 5 years ago made him look better then he really is, since then lucky if he has finished top 15 in the clubs B&F

Blue Boy

even most of the guys want to come home you have to give something up to get them, Faulkner wanted to come home but the WB wanted a second round pick, given the strength of the draft the crows were nervous to do the deal

Russell wanted to come home but Carlton's demands were too high

The boys wanting to come home is the easy part, both parties agreeing to a fair deal is the challenge

Different clubs have different strategies, Freo gave up it's draft position with only 1 top 50 pick to secure tarrant, the next 3 years will tell us if their gamble paid off, the Bulldogs got Aka for a 3rd round pick and are still positioned well for the 2006 draft
