Long way back from the position they're in. They've only got 1 1st round pick and no 2nd or 3rd round picks in the up coming draft, that's incredibly poor management.

Right now they would have 3, 57, 67, 68 so they're not getting much in from there. Unlikely to secure any FA's of note while they look like they do.

Tough times ahead.

Yep, not looking flash.

Losing Riewoldt and Montagna (on top of the likes of Dal Santo, Goddard, Fisher types in previous seasons) hasn't left them a lot of experienced leaders (Gilbert likely on his last legs too).

They don't appear to have much in the way of cattle coming through quick enough in the VFL either, so looking at their draft position as you've pointed out along with their lack of attraction as a destination, they're precariously placed to say the least.

Would think they will need trade back into the draft via using their higher quality / higher aged (unlikely to be around in the next premiership window) Happy to admit though I hardly know their squad.

As Booney said it appears they have managed their squad extremely poorly.

Just looked at their VFL team from the weekend and I barely recognise any names, certainly none who jump out as players who could fill a spot at AFL level.

Could look it up but CBF'd, didnt they have 2 top 10 picks in last years draft? Are they showing anything? (acknowledging its very early)

Pick 7 Hunter Clark 186cm/79 kg - 6 games this year. In the last three weeks 20, 17 and 21 touches playing half back and half forward. Has kicked 2 goals.

Pick 8 Nick Coffield 191/82 - 7 games this year. In the last three weeks 21,16 and 12 touches mainly playing across half back. Has kicked 1 goal.

Obviously been a bitterly disappointing season to date. After the improvement shown in 16/17, I think most supporters were entitled to feel cautiously optimistic about a finals push in 2018. 9 weeks in and we’re a genuine chance to add a 28th spoon. Has been incredibly frustrating watching well-paid ‘professionals’ make the same school boy blunders each week.

Agree with earlier comments that Steven and Carlisle are what you’d consider “A” Graders. Seb Ross hasn’t quite matched his 2017 form, or else would be pushing for that title.

Looking through the list it’s hard to identify many who have improved this year. Acres and Webster maybe. Most others have gone backwards or plateaued at best.

I like Gresham, will be a good player, but he’s made the difficult look easy and the easy look difficult in 2018.

Ben Long showed enough before getting injured. Too early to make judgements on Phillips, Coffield, Clark etc, but nothing has particularly jumped out in their performances although they can find the footy. The highly touted Freeman cant get on the park often enough.

The 2014 draft is looming as a disaster. McCartin (pick 1), Goddard (21), McKenzie (22), Lonie (41). Will any be at St Kilda in 2020?

Only N. Wright remains on the full list from the 2012 draft, somehow.

Recruits Stevens and Savage have been disappointing. Veterans Armitage, Brown, Geary, Gilbert won’t be part of our next finals tilt. Roberton has been missed.

The likes of Dunstan, Newnes, Sinclair, Weller, Hickey seem to have reached their ceiling and just haven’t progressed. Bruce had one decent season and hasn't backed it up. Membrey threatening to fall into the same basket although worth persevering with him.

Off the field the club isn’t in great shape, massive debt (which'll probably save Richo, who shouldn't have been extended so prematurely), cleaning up the Seaford mess etc. Good times!

Love the way one ‘journalist’ has run the story now there are 50 others reporting it.

What if he, heaven forbid, made it up?

If Richardson coaches next year and gets past half way he'd have coached the second most games in the Saints history.

107 games with a 34.6% win record he'd probably be the 2nd most successful too.

Stick with Richo and provide better support with quality assistants.

Already added Ratten and Lade.

Ratten coach in waiting I'd say.

Was
worth every penny, not anymore. One paced and doesn't find it anywhere near as much as he did and isn't winning as much contested ball nor laying anywhere near as many tackles.

2016 - 30 touches per game / 5 tackles / 13 contested possessions / 17 uncontested
2017 - 24 / 5 / 9 / 14
2018 - 18 / 2 / 6 / 12

He's either playing injured (not the same since that below the knee hit in the GF) or games caught up with him
