Agreed MW. For fullbacks, Scarlett absolutely monsters him.

Yes, backmen are also footballers. And in terms of backmen, he was one of the best. 4x All Australian 2006,2007,2011, 2012 x All Australian Captain(2012)
Also, my opinion is heavily biased.

My opinion - Paul Chapman (Geelong would have nothing without chappy) easily the most valuable player of the era IMO

Whats yours

Are you drunk?

He'd only be four hours ahead of you then.... ;)

Likely cos most peoples decisions are decided by media and is why no one can independently go past Judd Voss or ablett

Ball getters are great, but its the mercurial match changing footballing instincts of the most elite footballer who will go to the grave with far more ability than these glorified marathon runners

Brett burton is a good one, has abilities only most people can dream

Cirol rioli is is up there closest to the football gods, as was Paul chapman at his best

Midfielders are just super fit explosive runners who can get to the ball quicker

Abletts got a poor bruise, and now he couldn't even find a footy in a Kmart store

It's simple - anything Chapman can do, Ablett/Judd can do better... Not just about being a marathon runner you goose.

Chapman was useful, just that I could list off at least 100 players more useful than him since 2000, for a solid lad he's as soft as butter.

How is a midfielder better than a man who can take ten pack marks a game

Not that chappy took pack marks but 3 premiership flags went to Geelong and I hated watching it happen and always it was because of that bastard chapman ruining it for other teams as the punisher. I'm not saying he would be picked before Judd ablett Voss, but he certainly needs to be regarded as one of the most elite and most detrimental players of the era

Note: I don't think ablett would be bomber Thompsons first pick in that side every week

It would be nice to get an all time list of "most super coach points ever" but I cant seem to find one, if anyone can

1. Judd
2. Ablett
3. Scarlett- This guy was incredible, should of won the norm smith in 2007.

There's so many good players though like Hird, Voss, Buckley, Franklin and Cousins just to name a few. It all really comes to down to who you like watching and a bit of bias obviously. Judd at his best was incredible to watch that's why he's my number 1.
Fyfe is catching up that's for sure though, his year this year has been one of the most dominant i've seen.

Only because he'd be wondering whether to start him forward or on the ball.

I still think that if I was picking one player for my side since 2000 id take big Jono Brown.
Still dont think he gets the accolades he deserves because he played up in Brissie. Absolute game changer and a strong leader.
Give me a big clunking forward anyday over a midfielder

your all picturing paul chapman as a bomber (old & decrepit), you need to break thru your senility and remember the gun in his geelong jumper

anyways Corey Enright would be geelongs first picked of the era, then taylor, then chapman then selwood, then ablett :P

thats right, midfielders are a dime a dozen, but big pack markers are rare & there'd barely be a dozen in the whole comp at any one time

I have massive man love for Brown, but minus the kamikaze aspect Pavlich did much of the same, but had more versatility, so would be my first forward picked.

Although I have mountains of admiration for the guy and he's probably the best leader from my era I think the big fella could go missing too often for my liking, he'd be undoubtedly be lining up at CHF in my team of the 2000's.
