Pagan Stays

Talk on the national game

Postby sydney-dog » Thu Sep 07, 2006 8:07 pm

Smorgon advised that Mitchell is likely to stay at the club, he confirmed that Mitchell is well respected and the board invited him to present an honest assessment and advise how he would manage the coaching position...

BUT Pagan wants Mitchell gone, it all seems very messy and not an ideal set up for next year

Pagan wont see the month out. Will negotiate a nice settlement and all will be rosy (but confidential of course)

And Mitchell will not be appointed. How many short arsed coaches have been successful at this level.

My tip is Harvey from Freo.

it seems to be getting messier by the minute, the club has sacked Tony Elshaug who is probably Pagan's only true supporter, the club will keep on Mitchell, who the club invited to have a crack at Pagan's job and will bring in Silvani who is the coach in waiting

This club is in no better shape then five years ago, it has lacked leadership at all levels, lacked vision and strategic direction, it's embarassing.

Todays edition of The Age provides a virtual blow by blow detail of the board meeting. By the sounds of things it is a pretty unstable board as less than 48 hrs after the board meeting details of it are on the front page of the sport section.

Something has got to give here in the next month, not surprising Silvagni has run a mile from the place in the last 24 hours.

watch this space....

I don't know if it would be wise for players to be siding with these two blokes as Stevens plays for himself and Koutofides probably should have retired.
Don't be surprised to see Stevens traded in the trading period while he still has some value left. Not hard to see why Collingwood wouldn't part with Alan Didak for him.
Far as I can see the AFL's intervention in this mess would have been - "If you sack Pagan with his million dollars still owing, don't come to us for financial assistance"
Would be interested to know the extent of future promises given to the likes of Mitchell, Greg Williams (to come to the club) and Steven Kernahan (to stay) back in the early '90's when it was common knowledge that they were promised future roles in the club once they retired.
If anyone's read "this sporting life", there's no great endorsement of the administration skills of Graham Smorgon in it.

the AFL had every right to have its say in this issue its highly hypocritical to cry poor and gain finacial assistance from the league mid-season then, to go and sack the coach who is on a million dollar contract

You were the first to put it down Dutch.
I know that was my reaction when this news first broke - if they sack him, the AFL should not assist them until January 2009.
Whats more, they can't bloody blame John Elliot for this one.

What??? who do you blame for this mess???? I certainly would blame John Elliot if it wasnt for his cheating mismanagement of the club they would have been able to participate in the drafts of years gone by and had more better onfield performances

I thin this whole mess can be linked back to Elliot quite comfortabley...they are gong to be hurting for the best part of a decade because of him, and it will only we that short IF they have some good management from here on in.

Hear what you're saying heater but I was referring to Pagan's current coaching contract. Pagan was given an extension at the end of last season so it seems a bit odd to show such faith in a coach that seems to suddenly not be approved of by a lot of people at Carlton.

*bump*

News from the 1st carlton training session, Pagan's introducing the new coaching staff to the players and the comment goes something like this:

"This is the new fitness coach, Paul Ford, he's here to replace Mulkurns (his mate from the Kangeroos), not that I thought we needed the changes......"

Would you feel wanted??

Alledgedly, the assistant PAgan wanted to come on board, Crosisca, has already been tagged the new Elshaugh aka Pagans lap dog by the rest of the Carlton staff.....

Lets just say it ain't a happy camp at Princess Park....

FWIW Gibbs will go at #1 they are too scared of the repercussions if they don't get him and he turns out to be a gun, especially as he is ready made to play and the Talls (like all talls) are a year away.....
