REB, I remember an interview on Melbourne radio several months ago where Sheedy was interviewed for the top job at Melbourne - when Bailey got the gig. Sheedy said that he worked out very early that there was no overall structure to move the club forward and no driving force at the club (like a Frank Costa, Neil Balme type) to right the ship. So he said he went through the interview and realised that the club needed him to right the ship, not coach the team. Then he walked out and thought that Melbourne wasn't for him.

I'm not sure much has changed at Melbourne. Some of those players don't look like they want to be there.

After seeing Neeld's pre match address, I wasn't really inspired by it, actually I thought it was a bit on the insipid side - but then I'm assuming he's tried all tacts so far?

Runour in Melbourne that Neeld will see out the year, Clarko will finish up at the Hawks this year and the Dees will make a play to bring him back.
He has that bit of mongrel they need, reckon he would be a good fit.
Also helps that he is mates with Lyon

Why would someone like Clarko go to the Dees when the Hawks will win a flag about 100 years before them?

Only a desperate assistant looking for a gig would be interested in this basket case.

Been at the Hawks 8 or 9 years, if they dont win the flag this year he could be on his way.
Also rumoured to not be seeing eye to eye with his biggest asset, would the club rather lose Clarko or Buddy?
Chance for Clarko to return to his old club

They sacked Jewell in 81 after they won the flag in 80.
They will implode again its just a matter of when, they have a knack of flicking coaches

Melbourne need someone like him, but I think getting rid of another coach is suicidal.

As for why.... coaches like challenges, otherwise why would they do it?

Yep, 3 Jim, confirmed on TV this morning. Hence the craziness if they get rid of someone not even part way through their contract. What the club needs is to get rid of the deadwood in the club, and there is plenty there.

Given the draft concessions, it's not easy to churn a list in 3 years. Hence the guy needs 5 or so years to prove he's got the goods. That's not easy to stand if you're a Melb fan because as we know in AFL circles, patience isn't normally the first thing supporters and board members call for.

A club or two was always going to suffer at the beginning of the expansion. Melbourne has the worst list in the AFL and it damn well shows.
