Not as bad as last year's draw although surprise surprise both matches against Collingwood we are coming off an interstate trip and a six day break, although Collingwood are also coming back from interstate in the first clash (not sure about the break though). We also are coming off an interstate trip when we play Hawthorn but seeing as it is a Geelong home game on Easter Monday we can't complain about that, that one is key for our financial season.
We've got some big ticket home games and seven matches (instead of the requested eight) at the newly named Simmonds Stadium. We have a reasonably tough start, two against Hawthorn and Collingwood (who also play each other twice this year) and a challenging run home. Geelong have 16 FTA games this year which is great for the exposure of the club even though I can't stand thickhead Taylor.
All in a all a challenging draw but this is what you expect as reigning premier. I note this year that Collingwood and Hawthorn have challenging draws also so it is clear that the AFL is doing all it can to minimise the 20 goal blowouts that happened from time to time last year. I'm not sure how Adelaide gets a better run than the Giants though, although GWS can hardly play themselves I suppose.
