Exactly right! I cant believe people are judging the appointment of Carr without giving him an opportunity. He might turn out to be very good in his position for what anyone knows.
Like you said, need to start somewhere..

This will be interesting, Edwards has always had a good football brain. Might end up being a good appointment.

Really, I know Port Struggled last year and yes Leon goes alright, but you know I would have thought Port would be youth focused at all costs. But they you know this will only make you guys more competative which is a good thing for your club.

If you get him for nothing and hes only on a small-ish payment then its probably not totally crazy. I would have thought we might have been interested, but it does not look like it.

Agreed Stan. I would have thought its a waste of time for both parties as we are not closing in on a flag for at least 3-4 seasons.

I guess if we can get him at bargain basement, then he provides us with that much needed run out of the back half and frees chaplin to assist carlisle / trengrove as that 3rd tall, whilst aiding the development of guys like hartlett / pittard and o'shea.

Whether we actually go through with it will be anyones guess.

The Crows and Port are both wasting their time if they have a crack at him. If he's not gonna play in their next flag, he's not worth it. And if he knocked back $200k from Collingwood so getting him at a 'bargain-basement' price might not be as easy as one might think, even with his partner's family ties in Adelaide.

I for one will be voicing my concerns to the club if they decide to go down this path.

Whilst I appreciate the move towards youth and the reasons why I didnt completely agree with how Chad was treated this year and if we follow the treatment of Chad with the recruiting of Davis I will be somewhat perplexed.

Pretty simple decision then pag, if he doesnt accept a minimal contract, he doesnt get drafted. Wont affect either club if he isnt picked up.

Yeah see I agree with this Valleys that if he doesnt accept minimal coin then dont draft him. Like I said if you got him for nothing on very little then yeah maybe it would be worth it, but as others have said it doesnt make sense in the long run for either adelaide team really.

Let him play in the WAFL if thats what he wants to do.

All this talk of youth policies etc to target premiership windows is all well and good but have any of these rocket scientists stopped to think about how much quicker a kid might develop or how much more he will learn with a bigger bodied, seasoned campaigner around them?

Surely sacrificing one late draft pick on a kid who might turn out to be nothing anyway on a older player drafted to educate could come into the equation?

Fair points. Clubs spend huge amounts of money on huge coaching panels to do the development though and all clubs, not just some, are using this template.

Taking Leon Davis is a different scenario to Chad Cornes. Cornes was obviously on the downward spiral, where as Leon is coming off an AA year.

Leon can be used on the ball, down forward or down back, where Chad's best positions where either at CHB, already covered by Chaplin and limiting opportunites for Trengove, or as the 2nd big forward, arguably better invested by playing Butcher or Westhoff.

It wont hinder the development of Port's younger players as Moore, Pittard and Co. will be played in their best positions and Leon will be worked around that. If anything, it will stop forcing Primus to pick players from SANFL Reserves who are not worthy of a game but gifted one due to a lack of depth.
