How Much $ are you prepared to pay to see an AFL GrandFinal

To tell the truth, if it wasn't for the fact my team was in the GF (and won) I would rate the Bledisloe Cup match between Aus and NZ I went to in Brisbane a much better event.
Something special about cheering for your country and the national anthem sung at the AFL GF doesn't even compete with what I heard (and sang in) at Suncorp that night in August.
Of course I was lucky there too with Australia winning their first Tri-nations trophy in many years! :D

Thats so true Wedgie. Ive been to a stack of Grand Finals but I went to the World Cup in Germany and forked out over $1000 for scalpers tix to watch the Aussies paste the Japs in our first ever WC win. Would have paid 5x if i had to.
The singing of the anthem while being draped in an Aussie flag overseas was awesome

tipper wrote:thid thread is hilarious!! meanwhile Les, my holden ute (SS, 6.0 litre V8, 6 speed manual) gets less than 10l/100k on the open road (not sure on exact figures, somewhere around 9.5, but it obviously comes up when in town), and i am sure the above mentioned XR6's would do even better with ease. Wedgies figures actually sound high to me, but that would be due to the fact that is was loaded up with family, kids, stuff for holiday etc. my figure is usually with just me and my swag on board. also i think you will find that your 10.2 to 10.9 figure is the comined cycle.

anyway, myself i have never had the urge to go to the AFL Grand Final, buti am sure it would be an awesome experience. i reckon it will be on my bucket list so the amount i would pay to go would be directly proportional to how close to the end i though i was ;)

I was going by memory, but go here & have a look. http://www.greenvehicleguide.gov.au/GVG ... /home.aspx FG XR6 man - 11.1, auto - 9.9. I assume your SS is a VE & they quote over 12l/100km. As I said I can only go by the figures we get given I wasn't having a go at anyone, just those figures people are quoting seem better than the umpteen people that come into my workshop complaining about how much fuel they use.

Anyway, to the original question about how much you are prepared to pay to see an AFL grand final, I think it wouldn't matter. If you were a passionate fan of a team competing, you would probably fork out the cash & go no matter what. Wedgie did & good on him. The atmosphere would be amazing and would make it an experience to remember. Wish my team would just make it there first!

We bought my old man 2 x Packages for the Grand Final, through Sportsnet .. Each package I think consisted of:

- Accommodation for 2 nights at Mantra Southbank
- Function at Martini Bar (Westinn Hotel) for the Grand Final Parade (inc drinks, food), with Brad Johnson and Jason Johnson in attendance.
- Sat morning Brunch at the Richmond Football Club (Dwayne Russell MC, with Billy, Tony Shaw, Dale Weightman and Vince Sorrenti) which was excellent.
- Premium seating at the GF

From memory each package was $2,500, so $5k all up .. Obviously Sportsnet would make a killing on these things, but it was an excellent package and one I would do again at times when finances permitted.

i paid $2260 to watch the pies lose this year. yay!

that included 3 nights (fri-sun) accom at Crown Towers
premium seats to the game
entry into the after party with free drinks for 5 hours, which i took great advantage of

went with 3 mates, of whom only one was a supporter of either team, and we've all decided to do it all again next year, no matter who looks like making the big dance.

apart from losing my iPhone, watching collingwood lose, losing $900 at the Casino on the first night, and only getting about 14 hours sleep for the 4 nights i was there, it was the one of the greatest weekends of my life!

had the Boston Red Sox made the World Series against the Yankees this year I was happy to fork out a grand or two for field box seats to see them. Add airfares, accom and expenses for about five or six days Adelaide-Adelaide etc etc and I would have dropped six grand. When Essendon next makes the AFL GF (God knows when that will be) I will pay whatever it takes to be there.

I paid 672 aussie dollars for a box at an Arsenal game just 5 weeks ago so if the Crows ever make it I'd happily fork out the cash for it but my team has to be playing.

I'm the opposite. Couldn't afford it when younger when on a lesser wage and spending every weekend partying.
