TOTALLY agree mate, that's the most concerning issue .. With a young group you expect that every now and then, but it's happening too regularly.

Makes a point that Port chose not to recruit Callinan from Central, yet he clearly has had an impact for the Crows, if the three best players in the SANFL could do better than three on their current list then its fairly obvious what needs to happen next.

You could go a lot of clubs for not selecting Callinan though, over a long period of time.

Tom Jonas and Jon Butcher must be close to getting games. Been very impressed with how quickly Jonas has got back to form since returning from injury. Has impressed me most games ive seen him play. Would need to be upgraded from rookie list i believe

Im surprised Butcher hasn't had a run yet .. I know his kicking can be shizenhouse, but he moves well and has an excellent pair of mitts

Was staggered that Callinan,Puopolo or Duigan were not looked at by Port, they also delist Nick Lower who seams to be having a decent crack at Freo

Do you think he really deserves a game in the AFL? no way.
If this bloke was any good he'd be smashing them in the SANFL but he's not.
He'll be delisted next year.

He deserves a game as much as someone like O'Shea or Davernport or Pittard or Jacobs

This is a very low ebb for the club and I'm not going to take any cheap shots.
I don't quite understand Primus' coaching and what he's trying to achieve, I think he's been compromised by the heirachy from the outset and what is needed is someone to take the reins and direct the club in a positive football direction first, followed by a positive corporate backing......easier said than done for a club that is strapped for cash and in an onfield quagmire.

Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

As mentioned during the Carlton vs Melbourne game today, given the situation with draft picks etc in the AFL, the likelihood to turn a team around (from bottom or thereabouts) is now more like 8 to 9 years rather than 3 to 4 years. So the next coach of the Crows and Melbourne will effectively be caretaker or development coaches rather than future premiership coaches UNLESS the board realises that success is not going to be instantaneous.

I don't know whether Primus fits into the caretaker/development category. A lot needs to go right before you finish up near the top these days.

Matty has to build this group from the ground up, and unfortunately many of the senior blokes who should be keeping them competitive are struggling big time.
IMO

KEEP
Boak, Gray, Cassisi, Hartlett, Lobbe,Trengove, Newton, O'Shea, J. Westhoff, Schulz, Young, Pittard, Thomas, Rodan, P. Stewart, Phillips, Moore, Logan, Butcher, Jacobs, Carlisle, Chaplin,Bass, K. Cornes, Broadbent,

Retired - Brogan, C. Cornes

Elevate- Tom Jonas

Rookies, Curnow, Irons

Delist - M. Westhoff, M. Motlop, Webb, Meyer, Redden, Hay, Davenport

Trade bait - Pearce, Salopek, Ebert, Hitchcock, Banner, D. Stewart, Salter, Surjan, Pettigrew, D. Motlop

It's a terrible time to bottom out.
How bad that GWS will win a flag before either of our Adelaide teams!
Port were terrible, and are going to be for a few long years yet.

Trade bait will not receive much attn. Pearce is too easy to shut down. Salopek may go ok in a good side.... bet he wishes he didn't sign late last year! Rest will not get much in return

Wouldnt trade Banner. There is a bit about him and I think they should definitly hang on to him. They should also look at keeping D. Steward and Salter in my opinion and piss off Surjan as he is a hack.

Sorry I should Clarify, Surjan and D. Motlop should be simply delisted. You will get no attention for these players at all.

I would also not cut Reddan just yet, I believe he will start to come good.

The delisting of Lower was amazing IMHO. Sure, he wasn't the greatest kick in AFL (there are a lot worse), but he's a very good inside player who tackles hard and forces pressure. I honestly have no idea why Port didn't rate him.

My criticism of Port Adelaide is a cultural one that has had a major impact on the way they are performing now. They need to take a quantum leap into the 21st century and break free of this "Past Port Players make the best Port coaches" bullshit. Forget about 1870 on the jumper and how many SANFL flags they've won, the Power is a team new to the AFL in 1997 and have won 1 flag.

I saw this at my own club Hawthorn in the 1990s. After a highly sucessful 'reign of terror', the club relaxed with a proven formula of success and named a series of previous Hawks players as coaches. One day, the club woke up to the fact that the game had moved ahead, and Hawthorn hadn't moved with it.

The appointment of Clarkson has been a successful one as he brought new ideas and methods to the club. We needed it badly. Port Adelaide need this as well, and the recruitment staff need to be replaced.
