When NM joined in 1925 perhaps the different shade of blue was enough to keep Geelong and Carlton happy.

I think Collingwood had too much say in it truth be told. I recall reading a rumour that a condition of Collingwood's vote to accept the Crows in 1990 over Port's bid was that the VFL agreed never to let Port Adel enter the VFL/AFL as the Magpies in B&W.

I reckon had Port got in in 1990 they may have got away with keeping their traditional colours.

They also had their say in 1990. Despite all the screaming about the "bitter, vindictive SANFL" coming from Alberton, Collingwood was one of the most vocal opponents of Port's entry to the AFL back then.

FWIW: I think Port should've been able to wear what ever they wanted.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Because they want to protect their brand?

Because the other 16 clubs must follow the AFL rules, Collingwood make the exceptions...

If the other 16 clubs have a clash guernsey, why do we need one?

Why when this crops up, do opposition supporters only have a crack at the Pies?
Richmond and Essendon's away guernseys are thicker sashes, unless I'm wrong.

And different shorts...

I don't know what's wrong with the Power wearing black and white, if they changed to a clash guernsey v Collingwood (Collingwood were there first after all).
That being said, the Power now have their own identity in the AFL, and it is not black and white.
