Another one I got massively wrong, but still think I made the right call at the time, was Peter Caven .. He was hopeless, particularly up forward.

It wasn't til Blighty settled him down back that he provided 2 or 3 pretty decent years of footy.

Where is the "I was Right" thread. Picked James Sellar to be a dud when he was playing ressies for the Bays.

Lewis Johnston may prove me wrong. Said he would be a star in the AFL, but is yet to play a game.

I remember when the Crows were really struggling under Robert Shaw, and didn't like the young guy I considered a real liability. The sooner they dropped him the better.
So what did I know ?? Tyson Edwards proved me very very w...w...wr...WRONG.
I ended up a huge Edwards fan.

Guilty.
I blame the fact that the last side to join the comp didn't get half the concessions this lot did and they managed to pick up 4 wins out of their first 7 games.

WTF is this current mob doing!?!!?!

Gold Coast are a symbol of modern day footy. When Port Adelaide went in, their number 1 priority was to win football matches. Gold Coast are more interested in marketing and trying to attract non-footy people to the game. Karmichael Hunt wouldn't get a game in the second best 22, let alone their best, and yet there he is running around like a clown in a circus. I can't believe people thought they would win 7 games in 2011. GWS will be even worse. Good players will have witnessed this, and watched the treatment Ablett is getting, and I doubt they will be all that keen to join GWS. The implementation of these 2 clubs is yet another AFL knee jerk, all in the name of making more money. One of these days, that group will actually do something to aid the welfare of the game, not just their bank balances.

I went to a Crows game in 1995 and saw the debut of a player, walking away from the ground saying to mates, "I really don't see what all of the hype is about this bloke, can't see him making it in AFL".

The next game, he kicked the winning goal against Hawthorn in one of the wettest games of football I've ever been at. Welcome, Andrew McLeod

Really ck? I remember him at the magpies thinking the lad could play. Some of you lot are a bit harsh judging players after 1 game of football.

McLeod has previously said he found the adjustment from SANFL to AFL took a little time, particularly through the pre-season games, where he was quiet during the matches. If he HADN'T adjusted so well ultimately, he certainly wouldn't have been the first player who was great at SANFL level but couldn't nail a regular spot in AFL.

Gold Coast does not symbolise modern footy. It is nothing more than 'McFootball' - a Franchaise that operates in a league which remains predominantly the domain of Football Clubs. McFootball might work in SA and WA but in Qld and NSW it will be a different kettle of fish alltoghether.

The Corporate objective of head office is to dominate the marketplace thus improving the bottom line so they can sell more advertising and maximise TV revenue. Thank you captain obvious says Hawker. So when you think about KHunt, he is not being dropped into that backline because Guy McKenna thinks he is the only choice it is because the CEO wants an NRL man appearing to be a success at AFL football. Poor old Bluey and Khunt are just pawns in the greater empire of the Vlad.

So while I'm essentially agreeing with much of what you wrote, I'm actually posting all of this to spring to the defence of Khunt. What player do the Suns have that is the better option if he isn't in the best 22? We'll get a look soon as Coad has gone down and first cab of the rank appears to be Toy. From what I've seen of Toy and the majority of Suns to date is that they have more skill than Khunt not many of them have the same physical presence on the field or the experience of top level competition. I didn't think Khunt was all that bad against Melbourne. He faded away but being a defender in the current Suns outfit wouldn't be on many current top line defenders wish list that's for sure. I reckon Khunt has shown a lot more than your good mate Campbell Brown who continues on his try hard tough guy act at the expense of his new club. Khunt will improve but he's got no chance of ever providing genuine value for money in a footballing sense due to the massive coin he is on. However, if he can capture the imagination of the public (they only drew 12k last week) then it's a big free kick in a state where Wally Lewis and Darren Lockyer remain kings.

regards,

REB

AFL Footy is all about how good/consistent your bottom 10 players of your 22 are, the top 10-12 in every team are pretty much on par, have a look at the bottom 12 at Gold Coast and they were never going to win more than 1-2 game this season

He's been playing as a key defender in the Swans reserves. I would be surprised if he doesn't at least get a game or two during this season.

Dutchy, while I see the gist of what you are saying and agree to an extent, when one of their topliners, in terms of AFL experience, has to removed from consideration for senior selection due to their physical condition, then something is quite wrong there. How is it got to this stage of the year for it to be apparent that he is unable to meet the necessary KPI's to play?

I'll certainly put my hand up and say I thought this would work, but already the recruitment of Josh Fraser looks a concern. Jarrod Harbrow hasn't really hurt the opposition enormously so far. Ablett, Rischitelli, Bock and Brennan have been okay so far, but I would think some of the Gold Coast decisionmakers would watch the next few games with interest from the perspective of how some of their senior players are going. Daniel Harris an exception, he has been excellent so far, despite time away from AFL.

You reckon there top liners are equal to most other sides? Please!

They have two top liners in my eyes! Ablett and rischitelli.

Bock, brown, krakeour, harbrow, Brennan and Fraser are all far from top liners. They would all be struggling to get games in other sides.
