He's already there A Mum and hence will stay in Victoria. He's employed by the Herald Sun and MTR radio station in Melbourne. We'll hear more parting shots in the coming days, you watch.

x 6, Hopefully a side like Melbourne that sees the opportunity to improve on this years result for a tilt at the finals will snap him up.

The AFL need to be a little less precious about what their players and coaching staff say in the media, people quite clearly want to read it, so what does that say?

But it's not the AFL. The club told him to watch himself and what he says...he says "Yeah okay".....then goes ahead and keeps it up anyway. Had to go. Liability to the club and lack of disclipine would have spread like a wildfire if they had given him yet ANOTHER last chance.
He has been cast aside by two clubs now, and only has himself to blame. Seems to think he is bigger than the team he plays for. Self promoting idiot with no filter or off switch IMO.

LL, as much as I love Aker the player, I agree with your comments. The club sited that he leaked stuff to external sources several times. That just can't happen. I caught a grab of Rodney Eade saying something about it hurting the fabric of the club, which I can understand it would. So yep, if they've cautioned him numerous times and it hasn't improved, then yes he's got to go.

No other club will pick him up. 30 odd, dodgy hamstrings and pretty much run out of two clubs, whilst wanting to maintain his salary in the media and a history of saying too much. Zero chance.

But I also agree with previous comments. Prepare ourselves for an era where we get "we're taking it one week at a time" cliches ad nauseum. Thank GOD there is still Jonathan Brown who still maintains the "tell it like it is" mentality in his own brutish style. After him, that will be the end.

Im in the same boat as you Gadj, I love Aker the personality, but it's hard to fault the Western Bulldogs cutting him if they had/have genuine reasons for believing he is causing more harm than good.

The concern I have is how genuine those reasons are .. Cornes and Rowe switched to Melbourne to talk to a journo about it yesterday, and he commented that what he found odd was only a few hours before the press conference he asked Eade about Aker, and Eade's response was along the lines of "He's going ok, he'd be a chance for the weekend" .. Then 2 hours later he's gone!

It's hard not to believe the Bulldogs have acted more upon suspicion than evidence, or that player power is reaching a potentially concerning level.

Interesting times at Whitten Oval, how much longer do they have with this group if they don't achieve the ultimate success, before they start to break the list up?

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Aker accept a 1 year heavily reduced (halved)contract on the back of Eade wanting him to go on after an outstanding 2009, so that he could fit into the salary cap??
This was agreed upon, given his ability to subsidise his earnings in both print and electronic media???

Yes, he shoots from the hip, but you can't have it both ways Bulldogs !!!!

2 of their greatest players made a life out of being media clowns!!!
Whitten and Hawkins...

Anyway, well played Aker... Not too many better playing records going around....

Jonathon Brown may be on as well. They play Cats Sat at Geelong, so he may be in town. I'd love to see those two together.

Pure Talent can only take you so far in a Team Enviroment and Aka has always been about Aka and the Team will only put up with him for so long, he wont have too many friends from his playing days I wouldnt think, but he has been smart enough to develop an income outside of footy (Media), not for being himself as you people see it but for seeking the headlines.

They were like the Crows at the end of last year in that they had all their older players stay on with the view that this year was their best chance with Hall seen as the missing link. Normally the likes of Johnson, Eagleton and Aker may have been moved on. They have a good list but they have peaked while 2-3 teams are still ahead of them unfortunately.

Now Aker has now been sacked from two clubs he finally gets his chance to go full time with the media career he obviously enjoyed sometimes to the detriment of his team-mates it seems. I don't have a problem with a club asking him to prioritize the on field job over the side-line media one and then drawing the line if repeated warnings get ignored. On his day he was a brilliant player. The 2003 grand final stands out in my memory of him.

As CP said, at least we'll get him freed up from the club restrictions and able to speak his mind without reprisal.
