Not sure I agree with the way he's gone about it, but I understand the point he's trying to make and don't think it's unreasonable

So it's ok for everyone to go "Yeah, give Jim a State funeral" but it's not ok for someone to go "Perhaps a State funeral is taking things a bit far"?

Tow the line buddy, it's socially unnacceptable to speak anything but good about the deceased.

Jim Stynes deserves every bit of credit he can get, including a state funeral. Aker is a bell end of the highest order!

He's a bell-end for questioning whether a State funeral was appropriate for a footballer who worked with kids with cancer, while others who do as much or more don't get that recognition?

He also was a prominent youth worker with Reach. Reach believes that every young person should have the support and self-belief they need to fulfil their potential and dare to dream. Reach achieves this by creating safe and supportive spaces where teenagers can share stories and experiences honestly. A place where they can increase their self-belief, discover who they are and recognise that they're not alone.
He also worked on the government advisory boards for the Victorian Government suicide Task Force and the Federal Minister For Youth's Youth Advisory Consultative Forum Committee.
He did a hell of a lot more than just "worked with kids with cancer".

No doubt. I'm sure there are others who have an equally impressive resume.

There's no denying Stynes did a heap of good things.

What is a crock is the headlines like "Jason Akermanis attacks ‘nasty man' Jim Stynes"

I wonder if Aker has attacked any of the state funerals given for useless, lazy and unknown politicians.
Jim did more good in an hour than any of these lying, thieving scum that get (taxpayer funded!)state funerals.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Aker, sometimes, just sometimes makes a bit of sense.
The problem is, he uses his outspoken thoughts for currency, to keep him in a career, not to make any difference in this world. Anything he ever says will be coloured by that.
While he may have had some good points in what he was trying to say, what did he think it would achieve?
Interestingly, while he's criticising a state funeral for a footballer, he forgets that he only gets the opportunity to drive opinion because he was a footballer himself.
If it wasn't for him being a highly decorated footballer, he'd be just another big mouth down the pub like the rest of us.

There's a difference between attacking and questioning.

This statement sums up his thoughts. Should have been end of the story really.

"What amazes me is yes, he was a legend of the game and did a great job and he did wonderful things with kids, but you know there are a bunch of people who have done just as much who don't get any recognition either. I just think it's a bit out of kilter."
