Was fitness the issue against Collingwood last week, even though they had a couple of extra days to prepare for the match and the Crowies coming off a waltz at AAMI as well?

The Crows have not had that "fitness edge" this year. The gap had started to close in the last two years as other teams ramped up.
Overall fitness was not purely the issue against Collingwood last week, but the lack of it by some of the older players showed once Knights was taken out of the mix.
McLeod, Edwards, and Burton were struggling late in the game - Burton for most of it from what I saw on TV.
Another factor is that because of the Crows manpower issues they have focused over the last several years on avoiding the man on man game.
The lack of manpower and skills in this area has let them down in the finals each year. The need to rectify this deficiency for next year.
Their list has improved as younger player develop, and the game plan needs to be modified accordingly.
The change to the game plan this year was a little belated, and presumably because of that, they did not sustain it under the pressure well applied in the second half by Collingwood..
They were also sloppy in the second quarter, bombing the ball in long and hoping for marks from Tippett and Burton that did not occur because of Collingwood's disciplined defence.
They had run it in better in the first quarter.
[Perhaps the couple of easy wins had made them too confident in that marking ability.]
I don't know Collingwood's players well enough to compare the lists but I think Collingwood's style of play worked better.
