Round 7: North Melbourne vs Port Adelaide

Talk on the national game

I thought early in the year Port were top 5 material but i've obviously over-rated them by a mile, to be beaten by the Roo's with no Harvey shows they aint what everyone's been raving about, the YO-YO's have players that are too busy watching the big screen to see what they look like rather than concentrating on the ball.
They also have someone that looks more interested in taking MARK & GOAL OF THE YEAR honours rather than doing the team things.

Not sure if you've overrated them NM - they are still sitting 4th and none of the teams below them have been a model of consistency. Top 4 berth isnt out the question but i think this year it is out of Geelong, Saints and possibly the Hawks if they get their act together. Everyone else making up the numbers.

Once again you rubbish Motlop. Im not sure why.

Modern AFL football requires fast movement into the forward line to beat the zomes that,if given time, get set up by the opposition. Therefore modern day forwards need to be flexible, able to take marks on the lead ( Motlop can ), able to take contested marks ( Motlop can ), able to apply defensive pressure to the opposition as they try to clear the ball from defensive 50 ( Motlop does ) and most of all modern day forwards need to be able to capatalise on the smallest of opportunities given to them to score, which Motlop does.

Who are these modern forwards I talk of? Steve Johnson,Jason Porplyzia,Paul Medhurst and alike. Fair to say that most of these mid size oppotunistic forwards play a similar way to Motlop. Perhaps if you wish to rubbish Motlop consider that the coaching staff have given him free licence to play as he does? If so, bag the coaching staff as IMO Motlop plays his role in the side and when Port lose I very rarely lay any blame upon him.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Really good post, Motlop has been one of our better players in the last couple of years. Does a couple of silly things from time to time but youll take that with what he does. If you want to see the defensive pressure he puts on opp forwards go to a game and watch it live. One of the best IMO.

Look this bloke can obviously play & i've stated that before but some of you guys wrap him up like he's god & is a complete team player, i disagree i've seen this bloke on numerous occasions put in half hearted efforts to chase down or tackle opponents, always bending over blowing with his hands on his knees & thats not the only thing he's often undiscipline which costs your side immensly.
Don't get me wrong i'm not saying he's never chased he only does when he see's fit to ( when theres a goal in it ) & its not often enough, he too often burns other team-mates in better positions & selfishly tries for goal & mark of the year honours.

There has been the very odd occasion that he hasnt chased as well as you might have hoped he did, but these times are outnumbered 10-1 by the times he runs 100m to chase an opponent who usually isnt even his direct opponent, or the times he throws his body into a tackle or a smother.

You can say that maybe he goes for the high flying mark too often, but with people like Robbie Gray constantly at his feet when he does so we are still in a strong position when the ball comes to ground.

Above all else, he brings in a lot of excitement into the game.

Motlop is exciting but i agree he is frustrating on occasions. My major gripe with him is calling for a handball (when he's not in a particularly good position) when a teammate, who is about 45/50 metres out, should be having a shot, kicking to the square or looking to pass to a leading forward. Calling for a handball in this scenario is ridiculous and he should be told by Choco not to do it anymore.
