Why would they want a player who (by the time GC come into the comp) will have been out of the game for 3 years, was never that interested in playing and more importantly was never very good?

It suits Nathan better to be at a club where he can hide in the background. Ablett will more than Likely be a full forward and he is playing up there in Queensland somewhere

Plays at Broadbeach but has yet to play a game.

I agree with Rod as well, not enough commitment, Would need to be in exceptional form for Broadbeach for a couple of years to be any sort of chance.

THE AFL's new Gold Coast team has signed a player it will take in the top three of next year's draft.

The club has the first three picks in the 2010 AFL Draft and has already committed to taking West Australian David Swallow with one of those.

So, they think the kid will be top 3. What happens if next season in the VFL he does some major damage to himself ? What happens if in the VFL he turns out to be a spud ? Does the kid have to nominate for the draft ? Would be piss funny if he forgot too.....

I agree with Rod about Nate's committment but the guy could play at least give him that. One of the (many) reasons we didn't defend our 2007 flag was that we couldn't cover Ablett. Lonergan wasn't up to it and Hawkins wasn't ready. The loss of Egan and Nathan Ablett from our premiership side were key losses for the Cats in 2008. Taylor had to improve on his inagural season and Hawkins had to emerge as a league regular before we could cover those lossses.

I wouldn't be happy to have him back. Wasn't prepared to work hard enough. And he wasn't as good as his old man who did the same but got away with it. If all the Ablett's had Gary Junior's workrate how good would they have ALL been?

As for Ka$hmicheal Hunt he is so dedicated to AFL football that instead of learning how to play the game in the VFL like his team mates, he's off to Europe to play league for the cash.

So looking at the A-Leagues crowds on the Goldy, and the Roos having 30k+ members, me thinks JB and co made the right call on this one....
