And to think Geelong's bad kicking has ended up in a victory for the metrosexuals.

I would instruct players to put the ball out of bounds deliberately either on the full or via handball at least the onus is then on the oppostion to kick the goal from a tougher position (ie where the ball goes over the line) then if they score the goal only resulting in 6 points rather than 7. If they miss you regain control of the ball. Stupid rule regardless!

LMAO @ Matteeeeeeeeeeeeee. It wasn't that brilliant. Small things amuse small minds I guess. Seriously though, I don't think I've been moaning about the Hawks that badly. I don't feel as bad about 2008 as I did during the Blight era when we lost every time. No matter what happens no one can take 2007 away from us, even though the Hawks successfully took 2008 away from us.

Really looking forward to next year and seeing how Geelong respond to being knocked off and how Hawthorn respond to being 'the hunted'. Will another team step up and take over the Bullies mantle as the next biggest challenger?

rod_rooster wrote:Firstly the "massive" increase in rushed behinds? Might want to check the stats on that one. I think the large number of behinds that Hawthorn rushed in the biggest game of the year has clouded people's minds on this issue.

Secondly it's not Bowden or Richmond's fault that Essendon wouldn't man up. Whilst the tactic is not one you would want to see very often there are tactics coaches could employ to prevent it so i don't seen the need for a rule change. I think the major problem that needs to be overcome is the trying to beat the defensive zone. Reverting to make the players wait till the flags are waved will have a major impact on this. Sides will have a much better chance to man up thus making it much more difficult for the team kicking in. The appeal of rushing the behind will not be a great then. The rules were never broken and i'm not sure why the AFL felt they needed to change them.

1 - there was a 20% increase in 2008 and the coaches have warned the AFL that they will increase even more next season if the AFL do nothing

2 - manning up isn't the answer. It's the zone that's got the defenders baffled in the first place so they aren't about to go off and man up to stop Joel Bowden dawdling back over the line of Mark Williams kicking an "own goal" when in the clear 30m out  Waiting to wave the flags is a backwards step that just gives more time to get the zone set up. Let the defenders have an opportunity for a fast break and they might just get it out of there (provided the point was NOT from a deliberate rushed behind).

PS: Good to see the Hawks fans out in force in a rushed behinds thread  I think you won fair and square, don't you? ;)

I have been surprised at your lack of usual hawk hunting...

Agreed looking forward to next year- will the cats bounce back? I am sure they will.
How will the hawks respond to being the hunted? Not sure, although I dont think we really 'snuck up' on teams much this year.
Have no idea who could be the surprise packet- there is always one. Hmm, maybe Brisbane? If they can learn to run the season out...
