Actually, I did the DOOM tour on the thursday before the GF and the ground now looks really good. They've actually spent millions of dollars on heat lamps to stop so that the permenantly shaded areas of the stadium get just as much sun as the rest of it..

The new name? disgraceful..un-Australian (in more ways than one).

Yes it does look better but it is still hard as a rock, no matter what they do on top the fact that 30cm under the surface is concrete they will never be able to make it soft like other stadiums

This stadium is now know as -

I reckon it's ridiculous how the ABC refers to the stadium as 'Docklands'.

They should call it by it's official name, even if it includes that of a commercial sponsor.

I'm with the ABC. I'm totally opposed to renaming venues for the money.

The great stadiums of the world don't need sponsor names - MCG, San Siro, Old Trafford, Woodville Oval...

I don't, I still call it Footy Park, Kardinia Park, Glenelg Oval, Unley Oval, Noarlunga, The Parade and will now revert back to Docklands from now on.

I have three points to make on this subject,

First...Why couldn't they change the name to the Etihad Dome as to still have the option to call it just "The Dome" like people do when they refer to the Melbourne Cricket Ground as "The G."

Second...The reason for the change of sponsorship over the Docklands Stadium is because the AFL need as much money as they can get so they can pay for it and take over the ownership of the stadium, they still owe a fair few million.

Third...The surface has improved significantly in the past few years due to the fact that they are opening the roof as much as possible as well as using special hydroponic lights on the parts of the surface that don't enough sunlight.

Cheers!

1/ You answered your own question, Why would Etihad want people to know it as the "Dome"?
2/ I think you will find the AFL dont own it and have nothing to do with the sponsorship
3/ Surface has improved but the hardness hasnt, facts and stats prove this
