Geelong, next year.....

Talk on the national game

I'm not sure if they'll slide like Essendon did. They'll still have Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Kelly, Mackie, Selwood, Enright etc for quite a few quite a few years yet. They probably won't win the 3 or 4 premierships that maybe a few people expected last year, but i think they'll still be more competitive after their premiership win than Essendon was in 2000. Only time will tell though.

Let's face it, winning 42 from 45 can't continue. I certainly don't expect them to be crap next year, but history tells us that teams can't keep that form up for three plus years. I would LOVE to see them come back next year and get up the top, but in Malthouse's words, the window is closing.

Still a great team, but it made me sick hearing some commentators branding them as potentially the best side ever.
You hear it all the time when a team dominates, such as Carlton for one outstanding year in the 90s and Essendon in I think 2000.
Brisbane with 3 in a row have achieved way more and for my money Geelong are behind them ,they may well bounce back and win another couple, but until then the people in the media wanna not put their credibilities on the line making silly comments like that, one flag doesnt make a dynasty.

Yeah they presumably won't be as dominant, but i can still see them challenging for the flag for the next 3 years.

Who is going to go past Geelong next season? OK, we are now ranked number 2. For me that would make the Cats hungrier and more determined than anything to get revenge on the Hawks rather than precipitate a slide down the ladder. Done a bit of surfing this morning and it is laughable the amount of posts and threads predicting a Geelong downfall.

This has nothing to do with Essendon 2000. They didn't keep their list together. We will. This has more to do with North 1998. North won in 1999 and we can do the same in 2009.

football revolution ended after 1 year, get off the grass Hondo, they should have won today, they lost 2 games all year if they had kicked straight in the 2nd 1/4 they may well have been 5 or 6 up, such is footy, they will be a force for the next 2 to 3 seasons at least

why was it their god-given right to win?
The 2 best sides for 2008 made the GF, & the best side on the day won- that's footy.

Id expect Hawk/Cats to be hard to beat again next year but there will be a challenger....I would suggest Bullies, Roos or even Brisbane might be the ones....Carlton - NO!

North Melbourne of 1998 was exactly what I was thinking during the game. Best side all year, had their chances in the 2nd quarter only to waste them, and paid the price for it in the end. The Cats will amend it next year, same as North did.

Geelong/Hawthorn GF next year again. Doggies are probably the only ones to get close to stopping it, and maybe Collingwood. St Kilda aren't good enough, Sydney are sliding, as are Adelaide. North are like St Kilda, Richmond and Carlton will make the eight but won't push the top 2 or 3.

There aren't too many sides that can keep winning 20+ games a season that's all I'm getting at. I'm not saying they wont challenge for the flag, but I'd expect them to drop more games in the regular season. Playing finals regularly takes it's toll on players and affects the preseason for the next year.

Proof will be in the pudding I suppose.
