Premierships don't determine how good a player is otherwise you could say Aaron Keating > Robert Harvey. Also Brownlows are great but the same goes for them, Carey never won one...

Saying Wangas is better than McLeod "easily" is a bit over the top, both champions and it's great to see Macca notch up his 300th this week.

Im with you here DW,dont get me wrong, this bloke is a great player.

The best Crow (up until now) ? Roo easy.

The best Indigenous? Gav,Polly,Long.....

I have often thought he has spent alot of time playing 'easy' spots. The loose checking flashy running half back is a better spot than on baller/back pocket, and, most would agree he has played off half back more than any where else.

Well done on 300 games, you need to be real good to get that far.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

c'mon you blokes his record speaks for itself - 5 time all australian and all australian captain! plays in the easy spots, thats rubbish. credit where credit is due i reckon.

michael long would have to be up with macca and wangas for sure, he just doesnt have the same record and hasnt played as many games!

I reckon he's been in self preservation mode for a little while though, A couple of his team mates have started calling him "The Gardener" and he's not too happy about it.

i think you might be right mate.

Has been an excellent footballer and ambassador for the game and indigenous kids, but I don't think anyone disputes that.

His inability to break a tag or close check in the midfield probably prevented him taking that extra step in people's opinions of his performances, but a champion in all senses of the word nonetheless.

Well done to Macleod....brilliant player, one I would love to see back in black and white!

Best indigenous - Farmer (Polly of course :D )followed closely by Wangas. Despite rating Macleod highly, I don't think he stands out clearly over many of the other Indigenous team of the Century players such as Matera, Winmar and Goodes who are all daylight behind Wangas.

Hey I'm biased as a bastard though.

Well played Andrew

agreed about being robbed i still remember brownlow night and as soon as andrew got with in 2 votes all the camera men ran to him because they thaught that getting 35 possies you should get at least two votes. and he got atleast 2 in every other award in australia.

I fully agree, and i did bring this up sometime back. Stands out like dogs b@lls at times !

I heard Terry Wallace last night mention his efforts in both 97 & 98 Prelim finals, when in his opinion he was in the top 2 on the ground in both. When you consider Macca was still basically a kid at that stage, it makes you realise how much of a champion he is.

Would there be anyone else in the history of the game who played a better Prelim/GF combination, twice?

Absolute champion player - his efforts in 97 and 98 were instrumental in the 2 flags

Rewarded with all-Australian captaincy last year. Always a player opposition coaches have to plan for even tho he plays mostly out of defence

As for a comparison with Wanganeen, I'd prob put McLeod just behind him but, TBH, it's like ranking Miranda Kerr and Jennifer Hawkins

Well done on 300 games =D> =D>

Even though this years so called state game was a dissapointment, Maca was selected as the allstars captain (to add to his all australian captaincy) another terrific achievement.

His second half of the 1998 flag was awesome!

My preference for rating Miranda and Jennifer would be to place one on top and one on the bottom ........

As for Macca, well done on 300 games, a true champion.

Rotter, I'll sort of agree with you on this one. He has been struggling to maintain form in the last year or three. He obviously put in a big effort early this year, but has been slipping back a bit recently. However, the knee issue may be the reason, and perhaps that can be dealt with over the season break.

He has been a great player though. I would rate him just behind Wanganeen overall.

It’s not generally known…
Andrew McLeod has racked up more best on grounds (28) in Brownlow Medal voting than any other Crow. He is ranked seventh in VFL/AFL history in this category behind Robert Harvey, Nathan Buckley, Scott West, Greg Williams, John Platten and Peter Matera.
