The next team should definately be in Tasmania over West Sydney.. Your comment about the AFL wanting there game to be the number one sport on the mainland is garbage.. Ofcourse they do but are you saying Tasmania isnt part of Australia? If the AFL wants to grow why populate states already holding AFL licences when they can spread to uncharted territory in Tassie.
Im not sure if you've ever been to Western Sydney but its little Lebanon and I cant see them turning there back on there footy(NRL) for a garbage AFL side. I think the AFL board has to get over there eagerness to beat the NRL at everything. NRL will always be QLD and NSW favourite footy code. AFL will never stake that claim. Another team in Sydney over Tassie will be the worst thing they can do.
Agree 100%. I've lived over there, they are passionate for NRL. The AFL at best will chip away small chunks of support.
Foxtel/Telstra dont give a damn where the next AFL team is from, as long as they get a 5 year return on any investment.
The posts on here about one team being a 15 year prospect and another being a 25 year prospect is irrelevant - has no bearing on who will be the next team. There is no way any sane big business will invest large sums of money to run a risky venture that long for a return.
AFL footy is just a fraction of Telstra/Foxtel interests, they will abandon ship just as quick as they jumped on, say for example soccer gets a foot-hold and AFL revenues start to dry up. The AFL at least has done the right thing financially by realising the big $$$ currently on offer while the AFL product is hot.
In my opinion Tassie should be the next team, followed by NT, but that is sheer fantasy.....
