Damon White

Talk on the national game

Re: Damon White

Perhaps as alluded to before a trade is the only option.
Damon just doesn't seem to enjoy his footy when playing with Port yet when I see him play for North he's always smiling, enthusiastic, running to contests he's not expected to make, slotting 80 metres goals through, the first to hug and high 5 team mates, he plays so much better when in an environment he enjoys
The smile on his face in a North guernsey seems to get even bigger when he's a part of one of the many victories down at Alberton. Im not sure if that says something.
I know there was talk of a few years ago that as soon as Damon left the Power he'd sue them for the incompetent way his injury early in his career was treated.
Perhaps Port are aware of that and are just intent on hanging onto him hoping he'll start enjoying the atmosphere down there with no law suits down the track?
If he played under an attacking coach that promotes pretty footy and footballers enjoying themselves like Bomber Thompson he'd be a star.
IMHO even Neil Craig would turn him into a very good AFL player.
Gilham was a good player but White is a great player, and look at how Gilhams team and he are doing in a 'different' environment. Morgan would have done the same if not for injuries too. I won't even bring up Tom Harley.

White enjoying footy where hes bigger, stronger and faster than his opponents? Who woulda thought!

Westhoff is currently playing the role that White had. If White was to come in for Westhoff, he wouldnt suddenly be in the goalsquare. He'd be up around CHF and getting beaten by guys 10cm smaller than him again.

Exactly Macca, its not that White enjoys playing for North more than Port, he enjoys playing in the lower standard comp where he is in the better players week in week out, rather than in the AFL where he struggles. And who wouldn't!!!

And Wedgie, apart from the last 2 or 3 minutes of each quarter, Port do play a fast, very attacking style of football, its just that our forwards arent firing yet. Tredders and Motlop are the only ones who can hold their heads high. Also, Im sure White does enjoy playing at Alberton, his REAL home ground :D And who woundnt!!!

White is another Brett Chalmers... dominates SANFL - mediocre AFL player... some people just can't step up.

I think Damon White has had plenty of opportunities at AFL level, yet at no point did he 'take the game by the scruff of the neck' and really take control of CHF as I think he can.I thought a trade may have been on over the last summer as he appeared out of favour and Tredrea was coming back to some fitness,Motlop and Westhoff had had good years, perhpas there was no room for him.

On a side note Wedgie,Westhoff must play for us each week.I liken him to Trent Hentschel a bit,not in build or the way they play, but the fact both of them are natural forwards who just know how to be in the right spot at the right time.Dont judge him on how he plays against Geelong (you admitted you dont watch Port play many other teams) as Scarlett is the best in the business and Westhoff is a mere pup.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

It really is that simple.

Other players have taken their opportunities.

The Power must have been glad to have him today.. things would have looked really sick without his effort.
I've always thought he had potential if well handled, which is why I suggested earlier the Crows could look at him if he came cheaply.

I'm not that pumped about it. He's showed signs that he could be a good AFL footballer.

Consistency is the issue.

Personally i would have kept White as a back up player, but he's never really established himself so its probably no surprise he's been cut.
