Derm retired in 1995, so he was excluded by the clue. Funnily enough, only one Hawthorn player makes the top 65 in history, which surprised me when I got handed the list.

that's correct. Johnson playing in that loss to the bulldogs ended his streak at 24 games. He had played in four successive wins to the end of 1999, somehow missing a group of losses, and then played in the 20 straight wins in 2000.

As such, Johnson played in 24 straight wins in a period of about 30 odd weeks when Essendon was playing. it's an individual streak, not a team.

Ling has 24 straight wins, because he missed Geelong's last loss, and he can set a new record this week.
