Also Cat's Monopoly will be released on the 14th of march

Cats star in new Monopoly game

GAME ON: Gary Ablett replaces pricey Mayfair in a version of Monopoly dedicated to Cats fans.

YOU've got the premiership video and have bought every book on the club, but you won't be a diehard Cats supporter until the Geelong Football Club monopoly game has pride of place in your loungeroom.

Yes, that's right, the Cats have been immortalised on the iconic board game.

Instead of buying Mayfair you will be able to buy Jimmy Bartel and rather than cashing in on Park Lane you will be able to purchase Gary Ablett Jr.

Board game enthusiasts will have the chance to build an empire through buying, renting and mortgaging their favourite stars.

The 22 premiership players, coach Mark Thompson and a couple of past legends, including Bob Davis, all feature on the board.

Just 5000 copies of the Geelong Football Club Premiership Charity edition will be produced and proceeds will benefit United Way Charity and the Geelong Football Club Community Program.

Charitable trust The McGuinness McDermott Foundation has the licence from Hasbro to produce the game.

Established by former Adelaide captains Tony McGuinness and Chris McDermott, the foundation was launched in 1996 and primarily raises funds which benefit children and families of children who have cancer and serious illnesses.

McGuinness said the Geelong board would be the 12th charity Monopoly game the foundation had produced.

Last year it released the Victorian Charity Edition Monopoly which sold out in two weeks, while it has also produced South Australian, Queensland and West Australian versions as well as Port Power, Adelaide Crows, West Coast and Fremantle Monopoly games.

He said the game's release would coincide with the unfurling of the club flag for 2008.

The game will cost $79.95 and will go on sale on March 14 at Target's Bay City Plaza and Town and Country Shopping World stores as well as the Geelong Football Club Shop.
arrested in Wangaratta for being drunk in a public place on Christmas Eve, 2006.

In November, 2005, he and Andrew Mackie were placed on a court-enforced diversion program after being arrested for being drunk in a public place three months earlier.

Two years earlier he found himself in trouble when he broke an ankle after jumping a fence at a Torquay pub.
I didn't realise the bloke was such a champ, I like the bloke more and more now. I can't believe though that being drunk in a public place is worse than speeding the way he was.

Let the bloke get pissed and amuse everyone and he'll be less likely to do stupid things like speed.

good article...although not sure if clubs should abandon players as soon as they make a mistake...

http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,865 ... 11,00.html

I bet Gareth Andrews wish he didnt say this 2 days before the incident!

"The Cats have built a culture, from the top down, where everybody understands what it means to represent the club and its values. Steve Johnson learnt the hard way, but what a wonderful lesson and result," Andrews wrote.

He's a great player so short-term win for the club to have him on the field

Long-term impact on the club's culture for such a lenient response? ...... we'll see

If it was their 35th best player I wonder what would have happened

Interesting question there hondo, perhaps how Geelong handled the David Johnson issue is your answer. During Grand Final week of all times David Johnson got on the turps and made an a55 of himself which is not great timing when you are a fringe player and the senior squad was preparing for it's first flag for 44 years.

I reckon Johnson might be ranked about 30 at Geelong if not as low as 35 and Johnson was not sacked at the time. I don't even remember what penalty was given to him at the time, I think he copped a fine.

A few games suspension for speeding in a car????? I honestly dont see the link. The courts will deal with it and thats it surely. If we are going to think clubs should suspend players for driving offences what should we do with players who bet on games?????
